Hi. I'm sure someone else will edit this or pick this up properly, but Mike Batt's two most famous things he did are The Wombles (which is covered in this article) and the other is the music for Watership Down by Richard Adams, most famously the song "Bright Eyes" sung by Art Garfunkel. I'm sure someone will create and format something properly for this?

Also, IMDB says his birth date is 2nd Feb 1950 not 6th Feb 1949. I don't know which is right, but it might need checking to make sure the Wikipedia one is correct?

As I recall, the theme to the original "Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings" was written by a Mike Batt. I've always wondered if it's this Mike Batt.

Rewrite needed

I stumbled upon this article and oh wow does it ever need a rewrite. I have never heard of this guy before, so I don't feel qualified to do a full rewrite. This article has missed an important album (that is, curiously enough, missing from Mike Batt's own website - from whence much of this original post was referenced, as noted) called "Six Days in Berlin." It is a concept album, never released on CD (as far as I know), but only on vinyl. It was released in 1981.

Involvement with Steeleye Span

The article would benefit from more detail about this period in MB's career. It's currently implied that this collaboration was a huge success, and it did produce the chart single All Around My Hat, but most Steeleye Span fans felt that the shift to shallow, poppy material was a betrayal of Steeleye's roots and did huge damage to their reputation. I get the impression that the band felt deeply embarrassed by this period subsequently and have been trying to live it down ever since. Steeleye rejoiced in their big hit and deliberately chose me to produce them because they liked the Wombles' records. They did have an eye for a gimmick - (their previous album had Peter Sellars playing banjo). If you asked them today they would be full of good memories about our time together working on TWO albums (why would they have hired me again if they hadnt enjoyed the experience?) Mike Batt
