6/4/2009: Removed statement that the Midland was the first theatre in the US to have air conditioning. One example, the Saenger Theatre in Mobile, Alabama opened January 19, 1927 with Carrier air conditioning unit number 005, & the Midland opened October 28, 1927.
Also attribution needs to be found and clarification made for the statement that the Midland was the first theatre to have a cantilevered loge or balcony not supported by columns. Thomas Lamb in 1927 opened several theatres having no columns on the floor to support the balcony, and loges not supported by columns can be found in Rapp & Rapp houses opened prior to 1927. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Plasterlath (talk • contribs) 11:28, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Chicago Theatre, opened in 1921, has a free hanging balcony with no pillars, and there are probably earlier examples as well. Markhh (talk) 23:51, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
