Lists of GLOs
[edit]@User:13JMC: lists of Greek institutions are better placed on list pages, since their content relevance for an encyclopedia is marginal. Also, there is not enough reliable documentation about them. Most Wikipedia editors agree that rote listings of Greek institutions are not helpful if there is no sourcing from outside the MTSU homepage or the fraternity's own circle. If you can prove that one or more of the Greek houses is significant, then pls do so, but for the most part, individual houses fall under WP:UNDUE. That is, they are not significant enough for an encyclopdia. Here is an example of the lists, which are more appropriate. -- Melchior2006 (talk) 09:47, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Melchior2006 I do not see a lists page. Also, greek organizations make up a significant portion of the school's population. As well as have been documented by news sources, books, conferences, and the university itself on many occasions. The significance of these groups rivals that of the notable figures listed near the end of the article and certainly give a more clear picture of the school and what it is like. These fraternities provide tangible links to other universities and aid in understanding the greek life at the campus - this is why I included links.
- I will be re-doing my changes.
- Best regards,
- 13JMC
- P.S. Just because you do not believe the fraternities are significant doesn't mean that a large portion of readers would agree with you, truly I think you would be surprised. 13JMC (talk) 10:20, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- 13JMC, you're breaking wiki rules by simply re-inserting stuff without having reached consensus here, on talk. Therefore, I suggest you remove the GLO listings yourself and then we (that is, you, me, and other editors) can continue to seek consensus here. Your recent edits show that there is no sourcing for the majority of the GLOs and where there is sourcing, it has no Neutral Point of View because it is from the MTSU homepage or similar. As a solution to fulfilling your wishes, I would suggest you start a "List of" page. It may, of course, get deleted, but it has better chances than your current strategy. --Melchior2006 (talk) 11:19, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- I'm taking the GLO stuff out for the reasons stated above. I also toned down some of the boosterism and cut unreferenced assertions. -- Melchior2006 (talk) 06:22, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
