earwig copyvio checks out fine. Chchcheckit (talk) 20:39, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK I'm going to format this GA properly, below. I've added a two publications on the music ratings box, and some minor tweaks. Anwyay:

Well-written

  • MoS and prose is good
  • checkY Year-end table: Would it be better to organize it as "publication", "list name", "rank" then reference? It seems a little improper as it is currently.

Accuracy/Verifiability/Spotchecks

  • checkY "[Microphones in 2020] begins with a seven-minute instrumental section composed of two double-tracked and out of phase chords—D major and F sharp minor". Wrong source used: is instead cited in Rolling Stone August 2020 instead. have fixed.
  • checkY [9] The Independent interview. In 2018, Elverum spent nine months in Brooklyn, United States, where he didn't write any music except for the two-chord guitar ostinato that would later serve as the basis of Microphones in 2020. Does not support the content. It is cited by Rolling Stone August 2020; i have fixed this for you.
  • checkY [11] NPR interview. He connected the pages with staples to create a singular scroll, which was about 9 feet (3 m) by the end. Mostly good: however it was "taping pieces of paper" not stapling them. ("taping" also supported by this source)
  • checkY [13] Interview interview [sic]. The album received interest from fans and music publications due to it being released under "the Microphones" instead of "Mount Eerie", which surprised Elverum, who had expected the song's length to bring attention. Checks out.
  • checkY The transition to distortion is placed during the line "I decided I would try to make music that contained this deeper peace / Buried underneath distorted bass". Vocal harmonies are sparsely used, and appear in the last few minutes of the song. Both cited by the independent, which is the wrong source. "I decided I would try"... is cited by NPR. (reviewer note: i was wrong oops) "Vocal harmonies" needs citation to support the source.
Sorry, both are Sputnikmusic. This citation style really messed up my accuracy... — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c)
  • [29] Liner notes. The cover artwork is a 1999 photo, taken by Mirah in New Mexico, United States. Content is uncontroversial, but is there another, non-self-published source that cites this?
Not that I know of. A search only returned a wordpress site. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c)
  • checkY He [Elverum] discusses many significant moments from his musical career, such as the beginnings of the Microphones, the production of The Glow Pt. 2, watching the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, viewing performances by Stereolab and Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and listening to "Freezing Moon" by Mayhem. Line about "The Glow Pt. 2" (there's an allusion to the album, though not about the production) and "Freezing Moon" are not supported by citations.
    • The beginnings of the Microphones: cited in Rolling Stone August 2020
    • watching the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: cited by many sources including The Fader, RS Aug 2020, npr, etc.
    • viewing performances by Stereolab and Bonnie "Prince" Billy: both cited in The Fader. Alternatively/individually, Stereolab is cited in Paste's review and Bonnie in Pitchfork's review. (ideally just stick to the fader; because refbomb.)
    • Microphones in 2020 references "The Glow Pt. 2" in this line, as stated by Stereogum: “It was early 2001, and I was almost 23. I’d finished recording The Glow Pt. 2, and I was either always on tour or setting up a tour, always running, voracious, thirsty”. Although Elverum is referencing the circumstances/time around album, I don't think he is directly discussing the production of it. (also of note; he references the album with the line “When I took my shirt off in the yard / I meant it, and it’s still off.”)
I've just removed the mention. Allusions to other works are mentioned below anyways, and the sentence is very long. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c)
    • "Freezing Moon" can be cited with NPR.
      Added. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c)
  • The choice of sources: pending. 99% reliable.
  • Earwig copyvio is good.

Broad

  • Covers all bases and then some with the "themes" section, doubling as analysis

NPOV

  • is good.

Stability

  • Definitely stable; no edit warring.

Illustrations/Images

  • Yeah, images used have proper rationale.

Work continues; please hold. // Chchcheckit (talk) 12:14, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay okay. // Chchcheckit (talk) 12:36, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

So to wrap things up: the writing is fine, but there appears to be a number of misplaced citations in the article which you need to find/fix/change for this to pass to GA. Otherwise this is pretty good, you nailed pretty much everything else. Going to put this article on hold until the referencing issues are solved. // Chchcheckit (talk) 13:28, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the review! I appreciate all of the work done in checking sources. I have addressed all comments. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 19:26, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for fixing all of this. One last check regarding genres, and we're done. Chchcheckit (talk) 13:12, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@PerfectSoundWhatever Okay, so i've added/rearraged genre tags slightly, that is all. Anyway: you're article is done, and I'm going to pass this. Conrgats! // Chchcheckit (talk) 13:31, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
