OK, I did the merge from Micro-channel plate per the Talk there, but I think the article still needs work to make clear the function of the entire detector vs the plates themselves. Also, is there more to say about the use of MCP in oscilloscopes?Lisamh 02:10, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
It seems like the Delay line detector part is out of place. Perhaps there should be a section describing all the various anode types used in conjuction with MCPs, be they time, position, or time- and position- sensitive.Cjrj473 (talk) 22:44, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Semantic problem
[edit]I think this "microchannel plate detector" has a semantic problem: it's basically a detector subsystem made of MCP and detector, and there are not suff. treatments of the parts and then their combined use. After that you can wax eloquent about great design, and I (a tech surfer) will like it. I got here by a trail: photomulitplier - electron multiplier - microchannel plate - (redirected) MCP detector. The "photomultiplier" page rightly has a graphic showing mulitple discrete dynodes. The elec.mult. page fails to describe the distinction between discreet- and continuous- dynodes, so there is no pictorial-level description of what a microchannel is. Need that, and I'll try to help write. If you want to minimize number of pages, "microchannel plate" should be a section in electron multiplier page. jimswen 12:05, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
How does one add a refernce to a section farther down the page? I mean, how to do an html anchor in Wiki? The top of this page needs a link to the actual "Micro-channel plate" section which is all the way down at the bottom. Maybe it should be at the top?jimswen 12:28, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
Micro-channel plates detectors can also be used directly as optics in order to focalised a signal. Interesting developments from Leicester Univesrity could be added. I will try to refer an expert... - Related to this: I don't get the difference between: Gas Electron Multiplier-foils and Microchannel plate/Microchannel plate detector. Maybe there should be a reference in one of this articles to the other one, right? Greets Björn —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.76.200.193 (talk) 18:10, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Second illustration
[edit]The schematic shows the triangular symbol universally understood to represent an amplifier, but it's labeled as the anode! The anode is simply missing from the schematic; sorry! Nikevich (talk) 22:40, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
- It's supposed to be the cross-section of a cone as in the Burle microchannel plate detector. Sorry if that's not clear. The Burle setup is a conical aluminum anode about 2 cm in diameter that sits behind the second MCP. The RM Jordan anode is flat (see here [1]). The flat anode is a simpler setup, but the output signal isn't as clean (more ringing). --Kkmurray (talk) 04:19, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Second "MCP electronics" illustration
[edit]This looks like a diagram of MCP plates and mounting apparatus, but nothing is labeled, it's roughly sketched, and this is almost completely uninformative. The text is equally unhelpful: "almost as fast" compared to what? I think it should be removed.
