"Blues-Based Rock"

There is an dubious claim to the effect that the album sold poorly because Taylor's "blues-based rock" had become unfashionable because "punk and new wave were becoming more popular." This shows two fallacies found in many rock music articles in Wikipedia: first, that popular music is a zero-sum game where new styles can only become popular by displacing some other style; and second, that only two or three styles of music can be popular at any one time. Also, the historic record shows that many blues-based rock acts kept going strong throughout the late 1970s (such as, to name just one example, the Rolling Stones), and his album sold better than many prominent punk/new wave albums. His album's highest Billboard 200 chart position was #119, the week of August 4, 1979, and there were only about half a dozen punk/new wave acts on that Hot 200 chart.
