bowl section

@Grey Jackal: I noticed you made a change of the current section title of "Bowl games" to "All-time Bowl Games" per WP:BOLD and without an WP:EDITSUMMARY. I reverted your change, noting the change was "rvt as redundant; WP:MOS" as it introduced redundant noise words and didn't comply with our Manual of Style.

You partially reimplemented with revised text, without an edit summary, in a manner which remains redundant and inconsistent with the section treatments used in other Div-I FBS team articles. Per WP:BRD, please discuss your propsed change here. UW Dawgs (talk) 03:02, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

The last paragraph states Bo left in 1986 and then later said he retired in 1989. It also says that Michigan went to the Rose Bowl in 1987 to 1989. MSU went to the Rose Bowl on Jan 1, 1988. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.243.164.249 (talk) 18:22, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

Flattening (1901–1937) into "Early history"

IP editor(s) appear to feel strongly that

  • The px parameter should be removed from images, resulting in render at full size (padding/white space issue for paired text)
  • Within the History section, the (large) Yost/Wieman/Kipke era sections (1901–1937) should be merged into the "early history" (1879–19xx) subsection

The IPs have implemented those bold changes, reverted restoring editors, and have not initiated a discussion. What say you, IP(s)? UW Dawgs (talk) 21:19, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

I’d restore the original 1879-1900 if for ‘’no’’ other reason that it lines up with the main article that way. But it’s also substantively better. Michigan football took on its contours then, and , the “early years” shouldn’t cover a half century. I’d restore the original px parameters too. JohnInDC (talk) 22:10, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

WP:TOOBIG / History of Michigan Wolverines football

This article is currently 141 kB[1]

WP:TOOBIG gives:

> 100 kB	Almost certainly should be divided
> 60 kB	Probably should be divided (although the scope of a topic can sometimes justify the added reading material)

One option is moving some of the History section to History of Michigan Wolverines football, as seen in Category:History of college football by team. Other options include addressing non-standard sections and those with sourcing issues. UW Dawgs (talk) 17:25, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

@UW Dawgs: There are already six articles about Michigan in the very category you linked. I don't think we should start an entirely new, broader article. I do, however, recommend substantially trimming the history section down, especially since we already have those six other articles. Bobbychan193 (talk) 06:57, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
Agree with Bobbychan. Cbl62 (talk) 15:36, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
The history articles should probably be merged into one main history article, or split into two at most, especially considering how exhausting long and detailed it surprising is. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 16:11, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Division titles

Michigan only has 1 division title. They did NOT win in 2018. If they did, they would have went to the B10 title game, which they didnt. Thats a joke to have it listed. 2600:1702:21F0:9B40:A452:C5DE:1668:9BE6 (talk) 21:06, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

Shared division titles exist; Michigan and Ohio State also shared the title in 2021. Divisions can end in ties, the tiebreakers refer to conference championship participants. chestMcleff 17:24, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
Yes, indeed. The Big Ten recognizes co-division champs if teams have the same conference record. Michigan and Ohio State shared the East Division title in 2018 and 2021. The head-to-head matchup decides who advances to Big Ten Championship Game. Recognizing co-division championships is not some of statement (or joke) by Wikipedia about the parity of the teams, it's merely a reflection of technical fact. Everyone knows who the better team was in each of those years. Jweiss11 (talk) 19:09, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
