[edit]Watching documentary on ONE channel mentioning Kim Jones (first surname) as divorced from a Michael O. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kozation (talk • contribs) 21:15, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
there is a lecture hall at dalhousie university named Ondaatje hall.
He cannot have been born in 1943 and again in 1954!
- 1954 was the date of his move to England. Gamaliel 21:53, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thank-you. I was half asleep when I wrote that!
Surname pronunciation
[edit]Ondaatje – pronunciation guide, anyone...? Thanks, David Kernow (talk) 05:14, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, I've put it on. Hope it's in the right wiki format though. Btw, it's just for the surname, right?Pristine 09:07, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Looks fine to me; yes, I reckon the surname is all that's required. Thanks! David (talk) 10:07, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Parents of Russian descent??
[edit]I thought he was Sri Lankan! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.94.254.92 (talk) 16:53, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- He was Sri Lankan, but his family name sounds more Nigerian than anything. I would doubt it is a Russian name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.197.15.138 (talk) 02:13, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- Unsourced categories have been removed. Span (talk) 11:06, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- This is quite revealing. Apparently it's of Tamil origin, although I'd have bet many $$$ it was Dutch. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 11:15, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- In that article he says ""Ondaatje was probably a Tamil name, originally from India", he's guessing. Span (talk) 11:37, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- No, I think he knows what he's talking about. See Ondaatje Letters, where it seems Ondaatje is a re-spelling of the Tamil name Ukantacci. And clearly the re-spelling is for Dutch speakers, not for English speakers. Any Dutchman would be familiar with the -tje ending; no Englishman would. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 12:03, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
