Michael Madanly → Micheal Madanly – Due to a mistake by the Syrian birth registering office, Madanly is named "Micheal" instead of "Michael".[1] . H-Hurry (talk) 17:00, 3 January 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. samee talk 18:23, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

- Support WP:COMMONNAME seems less relevant here since we are dealing with the same name, just a different spelling. As the official "Micheal" spelling has some use in sources, even if not a majority, I'd lead towards the birth certificate spelling being the article title. Otherwise, the discrepancy would (unduly) need to be explained in the lead. Redirect would remain for "Michael", so no issue with readers getting to the article.—Bagumba (talk) 09:48, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:COMMONNAME does apply. Don't take name so literally. The point is that usage in reliable sources trumps the official. Whether that applies to deciding which name to use, or how to spell it, it's the same principle. --В²C ☎ 23:42, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- In addition, he uses Michael on his own Facebook page. FB is not a reliable source, but it does indicate he personally uses Michael, not Micheal, which trumps what his birth certificate says anyway, if that's the spelling he uses on official personal documents as well. --В²C ☎
- Oppose, but the alternate spellings Micheal and Michel should be shown and explained in the article. Hard to say for sure which is most commonly used in sources; even the cited example explaining the mistake by the official spells the name Michael in its headline. If that's what he favors, per Facebook, I'm inclined to stick with that. – wbm1058 (talk) 04:35, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per B2C. Timmyshin (talk) 13:31, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
