1985 Apartheid divestment protests and 1987 racial attack protest
[edit]Neither of these consequential events during sobern’s Columbia presidency receive attention in his Wikipedia page and both are worthy. The 1985 Hamilton Hall “blockade” sparked campus protest nationwide at the height of the anti-apartheid movement, and preceded the trustee’s summer vote to divest, and the 1987 “blockade” led to the nyc police arresting roughly 50 students and an observer faculty member. Sovern was generally intransigent to student’s concerns, and unlike in 1968, was not a conciliatory or mediating factor!! 2603:7000:9501:1BE6:79B6:BFBE:4FAA:6661 (talk) 20:54, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
