Michael Cobley / Kevin Anderson
[edit]Having just finished "Seeds of Earth" I was overwhelmed by the linguistic, stylistic, plot architecture and technical detailing similarities between this book and the "Saga of the Seven Suns" by Kevin J Anderson.
Is there any background information to suggest these authors might be one and the same despite the obvious biographical differences?
I realise this might be a ridiculous notion but the similarities are so eerie I can't leave the notion alone. --Mikek07 (talk) 15:09, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Mike. I did meet Mr. Cobley, and I have to confirm that he exists. I don't know enough about Kevin J Anderson, so I can't say anything about this... but a person called Michael Cobley exists. McMarcoP (talk) 10:19, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
--Mikek07 (talk) 09:53, 7 January 2011 (UTC) Thanks Marco. For the avoidance of doubt, did you meet him in the context of an author of SF books and is he of english descent? Info about Kevin J Anderson states that he is an American living in America. --Mikek07 (talk) 10:51, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I met him as a SF author, and he sounds British allright. McMarcoP (talk) 14:46, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
- I've known Mike for over 20 years, and yes, he really does exist. He was born in Leicester, but moved to Glasgow when young and speaks with a Scottish accent. OTOH, I suspect Kevin J Anderson is actually a computer program...Tanzeelat (talk) 10:43, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks (Tanzeelat). I am reassured by your comment about Michael but anxious that he seems to be drifting down the path of the unenviable K J Anderson. If I am right, and if he agrees, I do hope that he can reposition himself - I look forward to reading more of his ideas if he can get away. Your remark about K J A is naughty, but I agree, there should be more than a grain of truth in your assumption :)--Mikek07 (talk) 09:53, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Trilogy
[edit]I read « Michael Cobley followed up on the success of his first space opera trilogy with a second one » and I wonder, if the first one is the shadowking trilogy, it's not a space opera, it's a fantasy trilogy, if it's not talking about shadowking, I wonder what it's talking about :-) mat (talk) 15:51, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- The Shadowking trilogy is fantasy and was Mike's first published work. The imprint which published it folded soon after, and Mike chose to write sf instead. He's currently working on a stand-alone novel set in the Humanity's Fire university, and I believe it will be published next year.Tanzeelat (talk) 08:42, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
