Michael Backman recently wrote an article about Israel and published in The Age for which the newspaper has apologised, which a former editor of The Age, now the editor of The Australian, describes as 'racist rubbish' and anti-semitic, and about which Jewish organisations in Australia are considering legal action. These well sourced facts have been included in Wikipedia's Michael Backman entry but the information is repeatedly removed -- one suspects by Michael Backman himself. This self-serving censorship must not be permitted by Wikipedia. The relevant passage that is repeatedly deleted reads as follows: Michael Backman has been accused of racism and anti-semitism for his article on Israel published in The Age on 17 January 2009. The editor of The Age has apologised.http://www.ajn.com.au/news/news.asp?pgID=6934 But its former editor said The Age was guilty of 'journalistic failure' for publishing 'racist rubbish' and that the apology does not go far enough.http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,24941081-7582,00.html |
