Discography
[edit]After a pseudo-edit war with Malik Shabazz, I started a new page for the discography. The discussion we had is copied below:
- Hello. Please see WP:NOT#DIRECTORY. There is no reason to include every album to which Payne made a contribution. A small list of selected albums, or a list of albums released under Payne's name, would be a different matter. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 17:57, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with you that the list is unsightly but fail to see what part of wp:not it specifically violates. I've also read the disco style guidlines and find only minor violations. Many other musician bios have discos on them. The preferred format seems to have a shortened one in the bio page with a link to its own discography page. Somebody worked hard to create that list. I've never heard of "Clip" before today - I'm editing this to learn about the process of editing. BTW: Do you gain satisfaction from deleting things? You remove far more than you contribute from what I've seen. Stillwaterising (talk) 19:14, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- WP:NOT#DIRECTORY: "Wikipedia is not a directory of everything that exists or has existed."
- Also, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Article guidelines#Discography section: "The discography section of the musician's primary article should also provide a basic summary of the musician's work." (my emphasis) A discography that's four or five times longer then the artist's biography isn't a "basic summary".
- Payne has played on dozens of records as a member of different bands or as a sideman. It's appropriate to mention in his article a select list of albums he has contributed to, or some of the bands and musicians he has played with. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 19:46, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- You made some good points. I created the page Michael "Clip" Payne discography and used the contributions that 24.58.153.57 made. I still don't see why your needed to deleted it. You could have made you point using a template like {split} as in:
- without deleting anything. Wikipedia is a work in progress and not everything is going to live up to your standards. Stillwaterising (talk) 22:48, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
