featuring Desiigner?

[edit]

Shouldn't the infobox bill it as "BTS featuring Desiigner" since the remix was the version that was released as a single. BTS discography lists it as a single and from what I read the media is referring to it as a single. The remix will also be serviced to radio as well. I assumed it would have followed the same convention as Bad Blood (Taylor Swift song) which lists Kendrick Lamar as a featured artist because the remix was released a single. Could someone please clarify? (110.149.122.250 (talk) 01:47, 30 November 2017 (UTC))[reply]

I think it should be BTS & Steve Aoki (feat Desiigner). But no music publication is calling it like that. "Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)" seems to be the title, and the artist would be BTS (feat Desiigner). But then again, the DJ name is never included on titles here, and just BTS (feat. D) would leave him out. Idk how to properly do that. I'd wait for BB Hot 100 and how they credit it. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 15:07, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay we'll wait for Billboard, thanks for the reply @Cornerstonepicker:. (110.148.130.71 (talk) 22:19, 30 November 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Change Title

[edit]

The song title is "MIC Drop", not "Mic Drop" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.215.84.102 (talk) 22:10, 17 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, please replace all instances of the above-mentioned citations in this article with ones actually deemed reliable/acceptable by WP:KO/RS thank you! I haven't gone over the complete cite list yet but these are the ones i noticed off the bat whilst doing a quick skim of the article. Carlobunnie (talk) 02:44, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wording - what do you think?

[edit]

"They also performed the song on December 31, 2018 at the MBC Gayo Daejejeon. During the performance, the band wore red and black outfits as they performed choreography to the song." - this seems a bit repetitive to me. What do you think of this as an alternative: "They also performed the song on December 31, 2018 at the MBC Gayo Daejejeon, wearing red and black outfits in styles similar to their attire for the music video." -- Carlobunnie (talk) 19:36, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Carlobunnie, Sounds much better. :) Also, was thinking if the Japanese single album cover should be included in the infobox? --Ashleyyoursmile! 19:58, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashleyyoursmile: I'll make the changes. As regards the cover I don't see why it shouldn't be included. The Japanese release is pretty significant on its own and very diff from the og version. If the GA reviewer(s) think otherwise then you can just take it out. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 20:07, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

On a separate note, I think the Aoki image would work better in either the music+lyrics section since his producer mention is there and it would match the photo's caption, or the Critical reception section since production was also referred to there, if it's too much to have an audio sample and an image in the same section. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 20:19, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, its getting clumsy after adding the Japanese cover. So I'll move the Aoki image to the Music and lyrics section for now.--Ashleyyoursmile! 20:39, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, Pinging you again since the last sentence of the opening paragraph of the lead is sounding a bit tedious to me: A Japanese version of the song was recorded and subsequently released as a triple A-side single album together with the Japanese version of "DNA" and an original Japanese-language song "Crystal Snow" on December 6, 2017. Japanese repeated three times. Any thoughts if it could be rephrased to make it sound a bit interesting maybe? (I am completely out of ideas). --Ashleyyoursmile! 20:55, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashleyyoursmile: I've had that bit open in a text file since the MBC reword trying figure out the most concise, non-repetitive way to phrase it. The best I've come up w : "A Japanese-language triple A-side single album that included "DNA" and a new original song "Crystal Snow" was recorded and subsequently released on December 6, 2017." To me stating jpn-lang at the beginning of the sentence makes it clear that DNA is a jpn vers and Crystal Snow is an orig Jpn song. What do you think? -- Carlobunnie (talk) 21:24, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, I feel that the Japanese version of "Mic Drop" was released needs to be mentioned in some way or the other since our main focus of interest is "Mic Drop". The readers might get a bit confused about the context of bringing up a single album with "DNA" and "Crystal Snow". --Ashleyyoursmile! 21:35, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashleyyoursmile: Oh god I thought I typed out all my words lmao. Here it is again: A Japanese-language version of "Mic Drop" was recorded and subsequently released on December 6, 2017 as (part of(<-optional)) a triple A-side single album that included "DNA" and a new, original song "Crystal Snow", both also in Japanese.
I can't see any other way to mention that the other songs are also in japanese without using the word again somewhere, unless we omit their names from the sentence, which we cant do. This way only uses it twice and not so close together. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 22:09, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, This is great! Many thanks! :) I am moving this text to the article page then. --Ashleyyoursmile! 05:15, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, I feel like mentioning that Pdogg produced the original Korean and Japanese versions in the lead (as I did in the Music and lyrics section) but the lead keeps on growing in size. I am also thinking if Face Yourself should be included in the infobox and the lead since the Japanese version was included later on that album? Also just realized that both the original and the remix are included on LY: Answer, but I have no idea how to incorporate that. And finally, I did some copy-editing for the first few lines of the lead but still think it could do with some more copy-editing : Originally included as a B-side track on the EP, the song was later remixed by American producer and DJ Steve Aoki with featured vocals from American rapper Desiigner. It was released on November 24, 2017 as the second single of the album by Big Hit Entertainment. It was serviced to US contemporary hit radio as a single on December 5, 2017, through Big Hit and RED Music. The song was .... Please feel free to do that if you have better ideas. Its gotten messier now. --Ashleyyoursmile! 13:35, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashleyyoursmile: will check it out in a bit. Only woke up like less than an hour ago so still half dead. And I'll go over the entire page too. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 16:42, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Did some ce myself. Also included Face Yourself in the infobox and Background and release section (its a studio album so I think its worthy of mention). Removed the mention of LY: Answer from the lead, both this and Face Yourself better stay in the main article. Added songwriting and production for original, remix and Japanese in the lead. If the reviewer feels its become excessive, might just remove it in that case. Waiting for your thoughts / suggestions for improvements. :) --Ashleyyoursmile! 06:15, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about yesterday. You've actually already corrected some of the things I was going to so good going there! Also, I love what you did with the lead. Taking a deep dive now. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 16:59, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's okay, no need to apologise! And thank you! Happy that you're here now. --Ashleyyoursmile! 17:11, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In the Crit Recep section: 1) "Writing for Vulture, Kim Youngdae and Park T.K. wrote..." - help me think of not already used alternatives for writing+wrote please. I already changed a few earlier in the section but couldn't figure out what to do about this one. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 20:25, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I changed Writing for Vulture --> Reviewing for Vulture and In his review of LY:Her for The NY Times --> In The NY Times, .... "Reviewing" was used once in the first paragraph, way before so its kind of safe to use it once more. And amazing job with the references there. :) --Ashleyyoursmile! 05:36, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ashleyyoursmile it might be just me, but I feel like the picture in the live performances section is bigger than it should be. 9 times out of 10 I'm viewing on mobile so idk if that has something to do with it. If I'm wrong then ignore but if you agree, could we reduce the size a bit? Also, what about including one in the music video section? I don't think the article looks cluttered currently so another picture shouldn't affect that. Maybe one of yoongi's mic drop shot, or one from the jpn mv with the red-eyed figure in the back? Literally so many good shots to choose from. Again if it would be too much then also ignore. I tagged you in a question about the Irish IRMA chart ref in an edit summary here but idk if it sent or not. If the archive doesn't display at all we should remove it as it would serve no purpose. Please feel free as usual to look over my corrections and adjust anything that should not have been changed. I'm almost done checking over the entire article so whoever picks it up for GA Review shouldn't find too many issues, if any, but I'm not gonna presume lol. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 23:57, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, Thanks for the ping! Haven't been around here since yesterday so got your notification just now. I checked the archive for IRMA, which isn't opening for me. So I removed the chart and used the Singles Template for it. Its working great now! For the live performances picture, the size currently is at 300px which is looking fine on the computer screen. I tried reducing to see if a smaller size would suffice, but its kind of shrinking and looking tiny. So I think the current size should work. Also, about the picture in the music video section, I think its an great idea. We could use one of the screenshots. All scenes are amazing and could work out well. Please feel free to choose and upload one. :) And for all that hard work on expanding references and c/e, many many thanks! I do hope this gets promoted to a GA soon. --Ashleyyoursmile! 17:35, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashleyyoursmile: so I took the screenshot (well a few actually lol) but I gotta resize and whatnot, and I prefer to do that on desktop. When I'm editing on mobile bugs sometimes occur, so I'll probably upload it to commons tomorrow when I have access to a pc again. I see the article has more or less passed GA Review, pending a few minor adjustments, so that's great! -- Carlobunnie (talk) 03:08, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, Thank you for the sc. Also, yes, I am glad that the review went well. Couldn't have worked out without your great c/e skills. So thank you again. --Ashleyyoursmile! 04:55, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, I've requested a peer review for this article to see if it could potentially become a FA. You've helped me while working on the GA, so I wanted to let you know if you're interested, we could possibly co-nominate it once it becomes ready. Ashleyyoursmile! 07:16, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashleyyoursmile: I don't know how I missed this for the past 5 days so my apologies. I don't mind ofc, but would you really need me to co-nominate? You did the bulk of the work on this after all, I only helped a little. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 19:19, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, you really did a great job with this article, fixing the wording and formatting. I liked your suggestions and often consulted with you on how to proceed with the GA work, which is why I felt it'll be unfair to not ask you if you're interested in co-nomination. Also, from the peer review comments, I can see that the reviewers prefer the original and the remix versions to be treated separately. If that's how it's going to be, then the entire article needs an overhaul which frankly speaking requires consensus. I don't want to go ahead and just start changing the entire GA format without discussing it. I would appreciate your opinion on the overhaul, and also if you think the article could become a FA in future? Ashleyyoursmile! 15:24, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ashleyyoursmile: I do think it has the potential to become an FA. And sure to the co-nomination since you explained it that way. I'd be happy to assist if you require it for the overhaul. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 03:19, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Carlobunnie, thanks for the response. I've started the work here and will try to address the initial comments now. You could drop by anytime. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 11:14, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Ashleyyoursmile: This is a great hook and a good looking article but unfortunately it appears to fall short of a fivefold expansion. Prior to your first edit on 21 July, I count the article's readable prose as 5,776 characters. Currently, I count it as 19,830 characters. I see you've nominated it for GA – perhaps you can renominate for DYK once it has been promoted to GA? 97198 (talk) 12:30, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Now newly promoted to GA, neutral, well referenced. No apparent close paraphrasing from sources in English (Earwig gives a hit to a blog that seems to have copied from Wikipedia in a bizarre nonsensical way). Hook is interesting and cited, and QPQ is done. 97198 (talk) 11:58, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox and lead

[edit]
  • "cover for Steve Aoki remix featuring Desiigner" → "Cover art for Steve Aoki remix featuring Desiigner"

  • "picked it as a standout track," on the EP? If so, change to: "picked it as a standout track, on Love Yourself: Her."

Wrong Key

[edit]

I’m pretty sure this song is in D-sharp minor (or E-flat minor), not F-sharp major. --121.221.134.214 (talk) 06:14, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
