Jurisdiction

What ever made any U.S. state accept such a proceeding done in a foreign country? (You can't win a law suit that way.) --Uncle Ed (talk) 19:35, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

When I worked at the U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico (1985-1987), we often received requests for proof of divorces that had been obtained by Americans in Mexico. We had information regarding which officials had granted divorces fraudulently. As a result, we frequently had to break the bad news that a couple were not married legally. Heartbreaking.
