[edit]The following needs to be verified, but if correct, definitely needs to be added! -- llywrch 19:55, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Mettu (some times also written as Metu) is located two days drive from the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. It is about 600 km to the south west via Jimma town. There are buses departing from Addis Ababa daily to Mettu and the other towns like Gambela. There is also a domestic flight to Gore town which is about 18 km from Mettu.
Mettu is known of its' higher cofee product nation wide, Mettu have a sor Hydro Electric power beside the single generator used to serve the city 24/7. Sor Hydro Electric also supplies power to naighbouring cites like Hurumu, Gore, Gambella and Yayu Mettu has 1 secondary high school, 1 middle school and 4 elementary schools. It is also the administrative and commercial center of the Illu Ababor zone of the oromya region. Mettu became the seat of the zonnal admisnitration in 1962 (Ethiopian calander) for the first time. The admisntartive seat was in Gore before 1962.
Electric power
[edit]I removed the reference to an electric generator that gives only limited power to Mettu. The city is supplied by the Sor dam, with 24 hour electricity. The previous material cited a book, but I have strong doubts as to its veracity. I have been to the Sor site and enjoyed its electricity in Mettu, so I am not sure of the factual basis for the previous description. Pete unseth (talk) 19:58, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
