SeftonMetropolitan Borough of Sefton — We now have four articles on the subject of "Sefton", and I think that having them all as hatnotes on this article isn't an ideal solution. I would propose:

(a) The article on the Metropolitan Borough is moved back to Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, which is currently a redirect to Sefton. (b) Sefton is made into a disambiguation page between the English borough, the English village, the Australian suburb, and the horse. — Tevildo (talk) 19:49, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Borough status

[edit]

When the borough was created in the Local Government Act 1972....

Borough status in the United Kingdom suggests that, alone among all the metropolitan districts created in 1974, as a result of the Local Government Act 1972, Sefton did not become a borough. The three former boroughs, Bootle, Crosby and Southport had charter trustees created to maintain their borough and mayoral status, which were abolished when the metropolitan district was granted borough status the following year, in 1975. Why Sefton was treated differently to every other metropolitan district, I haven't a clue. Nor can I find any confirmation of this elsewhere. Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council's website suggests that Sefton was a metropolitan borough from day one, and this is reiterated here. However, on the list of past mayors, the absence of any mayor for the period from the district's inception in 1974 until 1975, suggests that the Borough status article is probably correct. Is the population really a 'Mid-2019 estimate'?

[edit]

The page states that as of an alleged mid-2019 estimate, Sefton has a population of 273,790. However, there is no source to verify that any such 'estimate' has been carried out, and indeed that 273,790 figure is the exact same one recorded in the 2011 census. Why is this figure presented as something it is not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.111.204.245 (talk) 22:21, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
