Why is methyl an anion?
[edit]Methyl has the same amount of electrons as methane. So when I discovered it, it made sense to give it a 1 minus charge. It has one carbon and three hydrogens thus its formula. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.23.155.104 (talk • contribs) 23:31, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Relatives
[edit]Methyl is one out of lots of alkyls: ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl.... These have the formula CnH2n+1. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.55.47.5 (talk • contribs) 20:37, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Added "Methyl group" to "Category:Functional groups"
[edit]The article starts with how the methyl group is a functional group, but this page was not listed in the category for functional groups. I made a very minor edit and added [[Category:Functional groups]] to the bottom of the article, thus listing it on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Functional_groups. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.193.59.16 (talk • contribs) 20:43, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Product of methane breakdown in the atmosphere
[edit]CH3 is created when methane is broken down by a hydroxyl radical (see Atmospheric methane removal). 78.147.62.12 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:14, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- good idea, I added that information to Methyl radical. --Smokefoot (talk) 03:04, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
