The image Meso_compound_without_plane_of_symmetry.gif that was present in the previous versions, allegedly showing a meso compound with 3 chiral centers and no plane of symmetry, is not a meso compound. The compound is (2R,4R)-2,4-dimethoxy-3-methylpentan-3-ol; hence, C-3 is not chiral, and the compound on the right is identical to its left counterpart. It has just been rotated 180° around a vertical axis.
