Talk:Merkel disk receptor
This is a good entry, and thank you for starting on this topic. However: In recently doing a search in Wikipedia for "Merkel" I did not come across this page. I therefore started a page titled "Merkel nerve endings" - which is an alternative name for Merkel disk receptors. Can I suggest we merge the two entries? Also: As for the title, can I suggest "Merkel nerve endings" since that is what anatomists call them. A search of current journal publications finds many references (e.g. by leading expert Z. Halata) using this title, while none use "Merkel disk receptors". Finally: I do not want to antagonise the editors of this page (which I consider to be very good). If we can agree on merging and title, I think there will be a lot more for us to disagree on - notably whether Merkel cells are themselves mechanotransducers or not! - I'm all for the merge. I'm also ok with the move. As for the different names, probably it's a matter of different fields calling it different things (I only know what neurobiologists say). Just goes to show, it's important to make a lot of redirects to prevent duplicate pages being made and to make navigation easier. I'll try to take care of the merge and move tonight. Thanks for writing the page and for noticing the problem! Peace, delldot | talk 04:01, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Many thanks for making the merge (as a newcomer I wouldn't know how to do that). I'll continue add and make minor mods to the page. Best wishes, DeCaux 18:40, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
