Sector General

[edit]

Any info on whether or not James White's Sector General books were an inspiration for Mercy Point? Bizzybody (talk) 10:52, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Off-topic, Aoba47, but the short citations (e.g. Garcia & Phillips 2008) point to your sandbox. I suggest converting them to short footnote templates of your choice (Template:Sfn/doc). – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 21:55, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects for episodes

[edit]

Not sure if any of the episodes received enough coverage to justify standalone article (if so, might make a nice Good topic...), but I went ahead and created some redirects, just in case:

Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:44, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for the redirects. I completely forgot about that. Unfortunately, I do not believe that any of the episodes attracted enough coverage to receive its own article, but it will definitely be an interesting point to research further in the future. Thank you again. Aoba47 (talk) 20:51, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How is this notable?

[edit]

Is Wikipedia just a repository for plot summaries of every tv show that ever existed? 108.28.226.250 (talk) 03:29, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is just a repository. We try to disguise this by having well-written featured articles with more background information than just the plot summaries, and using a wide variety of sources to mislead people into thinking these articles are notable. BilCat (talk) 03:44, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just because it is well written and has background information does not mean it is notable. What is notable about some random English language TV show that ran for seven episodes 24 years ago? Would a 24 year old Danish language show that ran for six episodes be notable? How about a 23 year old show from New Zealand that only ran for four episodes but one of the people who worked on it had a cameo on TFoTC? I saw an article about a man who founded a real museum and a real children's cancer charity that had people questioning his notability.108.28.226.250 (talk) 17:40, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you would like to read more on Wikipedia's notability policy, here is a link to the guideline. This show is notable by Wikipedia standards because it has received a substantial amount of coverage in third-party, reliable sources. A show being old or being canceled quickly does not impact its notability as there is very clear evidence within the article that it has received a substantial amount of coverage.
Bringing up a separate article about a man is an example of Wikipedia:Other Stuff Exists. Whatever is going on with that article and the discussion about its notability does not invalidate the notability of this article. And btw, if an editor can prove that a Danish show or a New Zealand show received a substantial amount of coverage from third-party, reliable sources and work it into an article, then yes, both are notable. If one had asked this on a friend's group they'd be given the reply "You're uncultured", but Wikipedia exists to make you cultured before being called uncultured :) GeraldWL 07:45, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relevance of Starship Troopers

[edit]

This is not explained at all - what in the holy world is the connection between the two projects? 2A02:8071:184:4E80:0:0:0:1B0F (talk) 19:47, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Since Starship Troopers did not perform well, studios and producers were less-inclined to work on any science-fiction films, particularly those with a large budget, so that is why Mercy Point was never developed as a film. I have added a quote from the source to further support and explain this connection. Aoba47 (talk) 20:15, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. --2A02:8071:184:4E80:0:0:0:1B0F (talk) 10:04, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
