Orestes is about Keenan's mother?
[edit]That is what the Overview states, and I'm not sure why. The word "Orestes" is nowhere in his mother's name, so I'm not sure where the contributor of that is getting his information. Further, Orestes was one of the songs that Billy recorded completely before Maynard joined the band, meaning Maynard didn't write the lyrics. You can look at the Judith single and hear the demo version of Orestes: Billy sings it, with identical lyrics. --Aganar 22:36, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Release date?
[edit]Can you justify the change in release dates? I ask only because there is a user of this site who makes a habit of posting false release dates for music. Thank you. Pakaran 03:42, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- The original article had an incorrect release date, which was actually the release date of the newest "a perfect circle" albums. this album was released in 2000, which i double checked at amazon.com. Bonfire2k4 04:08, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Mer de Noms
[edit]I'm not sure how many of you know about this, but if you combine the first two words of the name, the meaning becomes "shit names". Mer de Noms-->Merde Noms--67.177.36.200 09:40, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
- Indeed. I can't say with 100% certainty that either Maynard or Billy knew that at the time, but I certainly wouldn't put that sort of intentional wordplay past MJK. --Jemiller226 08:55, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- Actually the order of words in French is rather different than that of English. "Merde noms" doesn't mean anything. "Shit names" would be "Noms de merde" (=names of shit). However, "Mer de noms" sounds a lot like "Merde, non !" (Oh no ! Shit !). Now, there you have your most pointless post on Wikipedia ever. :)
- Sea of names is also in a line from a poem by the Islamic mystic Ibn ul-'Arabi. The line was one of the influences for Berger and Luckmann's The Social Construction of Reality. TheTyrant 01:50, 3 November 2006 (UTC)TheTyrant
- I think it is worth noting that "Mer de Noms" is improper grammar. That is, I think so. Because "Noms" is plural, "de" should be "des," thus, "Mer des Noms." The funny thing is that they got the grammar right in the code on the cover ("LA CASCADE DES PRENOMS"). Maybe we could add a trivia section? Perhaps we could simply add this under the overview. I'm a noob, though, so I'll leave this call to you guys. I'll ask WordReference. J1.grammar natz (talk) 01:44, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Heck, no, I'm french, and I can tell you that "Mer de noms" isn't a mistake ! It's just not common language, it's rather literary language, that's all ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.167.240.147 (talk) 19:55, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Gord
[edit]Maynard on vocals and gord? WTF is a gord?
You are, of course, reffering to the last track on the album "Over", which is credited to Maynard for Vocals & Gord. I have no idea. I already tried looking it up on Wikipedia, so don't bother. Underwater 19:22, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Gourd? --jh51681 07:41, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- Well, that makes a lot of sense. Does that mean it's a typo in the album, or are both spellings apropriate? Underwater 21:38, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'd say that 'Gord' might be the American spelling of 'Gourd'. They have the same method for words such as 'Armor' (Armour), 'Honor' (Honour), and 'color' (Colour). Basically, a lot of words which have an 'ou' together gets shortened to an 'o'. mÆniac Ask! 22:22, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Symbols
[edit]Is there anywhere or any way to make the symbols into a font? Also the symbols on the translation chart have a signature at the bottom which when translated says "monovitae" which i think means "one life" any idea why that is? Sinthetic 21:59, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- I believe there is a font made of the chart, or several, around the internet. My question is, when read from upside down, translated, the symbols on "Mer De Noms" become "La Cascade Des Prenoms", which, I think may mean something like "The Cascade of First Names" or something. According to the online dictionaries, "vitae" is "of life" or "lives". Would that mean "One of Life" or "One Lives"? If the latter, I think it might connect to the album, considering it was written about people Maynard James Keenan has come to know. (Kount 06:31, 11 January 2007 (UTC))
Unspecified source for Image:A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms.jpg
[edit]I found Image:A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms.jpg and noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. Someone will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If it was obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If there are other files on this page, consider checking that they have specified their source and are tagged properly, too. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:10, 25 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Fair use rationale for Image:A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms.jpg
[edit]Image:A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talk • contribs • Bot) 05:10, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
MONOVITAE
[edit]The word at the bottom of the Mer De Noms rune image is MONOVITAE. Monovitae was the user who uploaded the picture, meaning the image is edited. Don't think he's even on Wikipedia anymore... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tool-apc (talk • contribs) 19:29, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
'Orestes' Cover
[edit]Did anybody else hear the cover of 'orestes' by Evanescence? It should be worth mentioning as they're a pretty famous band.

Trivia
[edit]The (unsourced) trivia section of this article got it wrong. "Mer de Noms" is correct French and translates as "Sea of Names". "Mer des Noms" would also be correct French translating as "Sea of the Names". Regards. 81.83.135.212 (talk) 14:29, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit]This page doesn't get many views but I changed a few things around. Eventually someone should probably try to make things a bit neater, but it's all good. Manchester.bw (talk) 22:07, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
