I will review this GA nom... I should get started sometime today. PrairieKid (talk) 18:33, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Initial Thoughts
[edit]Just a few things I noticed reading through... (Yes, I am a lot better at giving criticism than praise. Sorry.)
The Good:
- Reasonable citations throughout (although there are a few too many primary sources, and there a few times where the sources are a bit stretched. As in, the source does hint at what is being said, or gives the numbers, but does not go into as deeply, or provide much insight.)
- -Thanks for the cite to a site with music... Really enjoying this GA nom now.
- I am a stickler for proper links. Some people just link everything with an article, but I really think the links in this article follow the thought process of the reader. (A little OCD, I know, but still, praise is praise.)
- Good coverage of everything associated
The Bad:
- Some wording is almost... technical (for lack of a better term). For example:
"McCartney was working on another studio, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard." (... another studio album might help for better understanding, as studio isn't really synonymous with album.)
The word "track" is used a lot. Personally, I prefer to have the word single or song, but I understand that is a little nitpicky and it really is not a big deal. (To add on a later thought, I also notice that there is a section called "Singles." To remain consistent, it would be best to either change the section title or change the uses of "track.")
Memory Almost Full #Content talks a lot about songs. I don't understand a lot of it because I don't yet know the songs. (Oh, and who is Heather? If it is important to the article, then keep it, but at least give a short bit on who she is. Don't make me click on a link with only her first name to find out.)
- Some other odd wording. Examples:
"9 demos were recorded at The Mill in September 2003 by Paul McCartney and his touring band.[4] A month later, in October,[5] album sessions for Memory Almost Full began, being produced by David Kahne, and recorded at Abbey Road Studios."
"McCartney and the band recorded the tracks "You Tell Me", "Only Mama Knows", "Vintage Clothes", "That Was Me", "Feet in the Clouds", "House of Wax", "The End of the End", and "Whole Life".[4] The latter of which, originally recorded in 1995,[6] was released as its own CD, separate from the Memory Almost Full album.[4] However, the sessions were cut short and put on hiatus when McCartney started another album, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, with producer Nigel Godrich.[4]" (I might be stupid, but I don't know why there is mention of a song that wasn't even in the album.)
"...he contract of the deal ended a few months prior to the release of the album,[5] after McCartney found out that EMI were going to take 6 months to set up a promotional strategy for the album."
"highest-charting album there since 1997's Flaming Pie,[40] 47% of sales from the opening week were from Starbucks coffee shops,[37] which were the best by any album in the history of Starbucks."
The Ugly:
Nothing really.
Summary
[edit]Well, this article is pretty good. There isn't anything horribly wrong with it, but there also isn't much that is really perfect. I do think this has the potential to become a GA.
What Needs to Happen
[edit]- Prose improvement
- A few citation improvements, though I am pretty much satisfied
I will give the actual rubric soon as well. PrairieKid (talk) 19:03, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- Done "Whole Life" was mention as, even though it didn't make it onto the album, it was recorded during sessions for the album. (I've turned it into a footnote.) Best, yeepsi (Talk tonight) 14:05, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- I am very sorry. I lost my internet connection (silly Centurylink) for a few days. I have it back now and will finish my review. Thank you for your patience. PrairieKid (talk) 17:23, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
- It's alright, happens to us all. Best, yeepsi (Talk tonight) 17:44, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
- So, what's happening here? Best, yeepsi (Talk tonight) 15:45, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- Oh gosh... I am so sorry. I don't know what happened. I will finish the review immediately! PrairieKid (talk) 15:46, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- I don't even think I need to give the rubric. This article meets the criteria. Memory Almost Full, welcome to GA! PrairieKid (talk) 15:49, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! Best, yeepsi (Talk tonight) 15:51, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
