No rest for the wicked
From [1] Frank Preston Stearns, Cambridge Sketches (1905):
- ...an enormous clock on the tower of Memorial Hall detonates the hours in a manner which is by no means conducive to the sleep of the just and the rest of the weary.
(Of course, the Lowell House bells now perform that function, at least on Sundays.) EEng (talk) 03:42, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- "[D]etonates the hours"! One has got to admire such imaginative use of English. Highly suitable for inclusion in the article. Hertz1888 (talk) 04:13, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Right now the article's so skeletal there isn't even a mention of the clock, so I parked it here temporarily knowing you'd enjoy it -- naturally you will check out the source, which is full of the kind of stuff you and I both love. EEng (talk) 05:17, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
Tower Chronology
