Note 2 opens up a whole area of confusion. Some War Memorials (Beith in Ayrshire for example) do indeed include the names of soldiers who had emigrated permanently but whose parents or family members still resided in the neighbourhood. What should be done about villages whose War Memorials contain "only" such non-residents? Do such villages exist? Should they be re-classified as 'Thankful'? I have only created the note from pre-existing text, I have no relevant expertise. I would doubt that any village exists with a war memorial listing only non-residents. The list at Thankful Villages makes it clear that it is place of residence not place of birth that is being considered. Several of the villages listed lost soldiers born there but resident elsewhere.
