Nowell played for the 1960 NCAA champion Ohio State Buckeyes. The three Buckeye teams he played on rank with the greatest college teams of all-time. They were undefeated all three years at home. Nowell's scoring was a key factor in the success of those Ohio State teams, which played in three straight NCAA Finals during his years there. Nowell later played in the NBA and in the ABA, both remarkable accomplishments for American basketball players.
