Just so you all know that there is actually a Mel's Diner in Wilmington, New York, which is near the Whiteface Ski Resort and about 13 miles northwest of downtown Lake Placid on Route 86. And it is really a 1950s-60s style diner that plays nice 50s and 60s music. I do recall having breakfast at that Mel's Diner and there was a jukebox and I recall hearing the song Surf City by Jan and Dean. Not to mention a number of other Mel's Diner showing up on Google Maps. I don't know whether or not it's a chain but it is actually a real diner. Also, does anyone know where Mel's Diner got it's name? I usually think of the name Mel as Melanie (and I sometimes think of the name Melanie as one of my old friends from high school who happened to end up graduating from high school as a salutatorian, which is something I was amazed by). This article should include info on the actual Mels Diners chain in the San Francisco Bay Area. These diners are 50's themed and contain memorabilia from American Graffiti and Alice. http://originalmelsdiner.com/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1010:B04F:7A41:88FE:FECE:4391:38EE (talk) 07:03, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Indeed, the web site of The Original Mel's Diner claims, on its front page, to be the basis for the “fictional” Mel's Diner in Alice. — Bob Blaylock (talk) 03:08, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- I was shocked to find this article instead of the chain in San Francisco (and CA), but it turns out that is Mel's Drive-In. I'm pretty sure there must be a connection, but we would have to find that in the WP:RS. --David Tornheim (talk) 18:59, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
