[edit]While I appreciate this article and its value in providing some historical information on an Albanian family, a few of the sources used do not exactly pass as RS or contains information which is incorrect and at odds with other historical works. Firstly, Fedhon Meksi, the author of Labova e Madhe dhe Labovitët: gjurmime në vite (2010) cited in the article, himself is not a historian but was rather a doctor specialising in cardiology. This is not to discredit any potential values of Meksi, however, it is important to note when considering his work as RS. He makes the claim that the name Meksi is a compound of mjek ('doctor' or 'medic') + the suffix -si although this is not substantiated. The name itself is a derivative of the Albanian meksh ('bull-calf') and appears as a pan-Albanian anthroponym since the medieval period in forms such as Mekshi, Menkshi and Meksi.
Secondly, Milan Šufflay (1926) is cited in the article in supporting a connection between the Meksi family of southern Albania (and those of the diaspora) with the medieval Meshi (also recorded as Mesi or Messi) fis which inhabited areas of northern and north-central Albania. However, again, this connection is not really substantiated or supported in the evidence and is in fact a conflation as opposed to a true connection. In his argument that the surname Mexi (a possible reading of Meksi) is a derivative Meshi, Šufflay only cites an example of an individual recorded in 1423 named Nichus Mexi from Ulcinj/Ulqin without making any arguments as to his relation with the Meshi or providing a linguistic argument. In fact, the etymology Šufflay presents for Meshi is at odds with Meksi's claim, with the former claiming it to be from the Albanian meshë ('mass') and a reference to his opinion that this fis received the communion bread according to Orthodox rites. The Meksi = Meshi connection also falls in contradiction with Meksi's claim that the family are a branch of the medieval Bua family.
Thirdly, there are multiple unrelated Meksi families. This article needs to specify which one it is discussing so as to not mislead readers. Lezhjani1444 (talk) 20:13, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
