It is always a pleasure to review your quality noms. AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 15:09, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@AhmadLX: Thank you sir, I always look forward to your thorough reviews. I’ve started to address a few of the issues raised and will update you here probably within the next couple of days. Al Ameer (talk) 19:45, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Misc.

  • Infobox gives birth year but the article body doesn't.
  • I extrapolated the birth year from the fact he became governor of Smyrna at the age of 40. Problem is I do not have the exact year in which he was appointed governor of that district yet, so I've removed the birth year. Al Ameer (talk) 18:27, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "He became fluent in French, in addition to Arabic." Did he learn Arabic in Paris?
  • "a power shuffle in the Sublime Porte (Ottoman central government), resulted in the reappointment of Rashid Pasha's mentor Mehmed Ali Pasha as grand vizier." Ali Pasha's removal is not mentioned before this.
  • Grand Vizier and grand vizier. Please standardize.
  • "Mehmed Ali Pasha affirmed and appointed Rashid Pasha valī of Syria." Please add year.
  • "In general, many of the urban businessmen Rashid Pasha courted lacked adequate capital for mass land acquisition..." How did they acquire lands then?
  • Hope I've clarified this as well. In general the merchants of the cities lacked adequate funds to purchase state lands during Rashid's term despite his encouragement, but property prices apparently decreased coincidentally after he left office, so these businessmen were able then to take advantage. Al Ameer (talk) 18:27, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "To do this, he sought to suppress the Bedouin tribes of the desert fringes." Why? Were these Bedouins involved in criminal/anti-state activities?
  • Yes, I added some context, i.e. depredations against agricultural villages and their high mobility. If I go for FAC, I'll try to add more context on the particular tribes, their arrival from Arabia in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and their interactions with the local Syrians and Ottoman state preceding Rashid's term. Same for the Alawites and Druze. Al Ameer (talk) 18:27, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Rashid Pasha had secured the state's recognition in the Hauran" What does this mean?

Sources and Verifiability

  • "Rashid Pasha was reappointed foreign affairs minister in the government of Grand Vizier Mahmud Nedim Pasha in late 1875." is unreferenced.
  • Please add page ranges of the book chapters in biblio: Abu-Manneh, Boutros (1999), Abu-Manneh, Butrus (1992), Rogan, E. (1994). Also for the journal article: Schilcher, L. Schatkowski (1981).
  • "In line with the 1858 Land Code, large state-owned tracts in the Hauran plain and the Beqaa Valley were put up for auction....." p.174, and not p.173, covers this whole para.
  • "Through the Damascus Administrative Council, these projects were commenced to facilitate access to the city's rural..." p.174.
  • "Abd al-Qadir al-Jaza'iri ... Richard Burton..." as well. Please check for the other instances of [10].
  • That Rashid Pasha was removed from the office in mid-1874 is not in Manna 2000, p. 284. It mentions removal but not mid-1874.
  • "The Syria Vilayet was formed in 1864, largely consisting of the territory of Damascus Eyalet." I could not find this in Yazbak 1998, p. 25.
  • Abu-Manneh, Butrus and Abu-Manneh, Boutros. Are they different persons or just variant spelling of the last name?
  • Same person, the spelling is different in each source though. Should I just spell his name the same way?

Images

  • "File:Mehmet emin ali painting.jpg" US tag needed.
  • "File:Cherkess hasan.jpg" US tag needed.
  • Also for "File:Mehmed Rashid Pasha.jpg"
  • Thanks for the fixes Al Ameer. "File:Martin, R.M.; Tallis, J. & F. Turkey in Asia. 1851 (F).jpg" as well ;) Sorry, it was added later. A couple points above are still unaddressed. Thanks. AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 20:08, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pass. Great Work. A couple issues should be fixed. There are 2 instances of Schilcher 1981, p. 174. ([12] and [17]). Please make them one. To avoid impression of overuse, you can delete some redundant cites inside paras; one at the end is enough. Also, please modify the sentence noted above (last in Misc.); it currently gives a double impression. AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 21:27, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@AhmadLX: Thanks for passing the article. I believe I've now sorted out the mess with the Schilcher refs. I typically add a citation to every sentence, I thought it was an FA standard procedure, but I've pared them down significantly, with the exception of quotations. Also hope I've clarified the bit about "state recognition". Cheers --Al Ameer (talk) 15:57, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
