Two Separate Groups?

[edit]

I noticed that someone replaced the original link to a Meherrin website with a link to another one that appears to have separate leadership. It would be helpful if someone could perhaps expand the existing article to explain any potential differences these two groups have. Please don't simply replace one link with another without explaining the reasoning behind the change. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 17:03, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, There is not two separate groups. There is only one Meherrin Indian Tribe. www.meherrinnation.com Meherrin Indian Nation (talk) 15:38, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please add the link: meherrinnation.org. This has much more information than is provided here. The link that is currently provided is from a group that separated but is not seated with the NC Commission on Indian Affairs. The group that runs meherrinnation.org is the one recognized by the state of NC and has a lawsuit pending to remove the rogue former chief (Thomas Lewis) from running the splinter group. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.208.216.113 (talk) 03:22, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, someone conflated the Meherrin Indian Tribe, a state-recognized group, with the "Chowanoke-Meherrin," an unrecognized tribe. They both appear to originate in Winton, North Carolina, so the confusion is understandable. This article should be rewritten to discuss the historical ethnic group, the Meherrin, and a separate article should be created for the Meherrin Indian Tribe. BTW User:Meherrin Indian Nation, since you have a conflict of interest, you are discouraged from editing this article, but you can suggest edits here on this talk page. The Chowanoke-Meherrin does not exist. Please provide current sources if you are not sure. Meherrin Indian Nation (talk) 15:43, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The wp:self-published website is linked at the new Meherrin Indian Tribe article that is specifically about the North Carolina state-recognized tribe. Self-published websites cannot be used as sources in Wikipedia. Sources should secondary, published, wp:reliable sources. Yuchitown (talk) 15:48, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]

Please have a look at this State of North Carolina government operated website https://ncadmin.nc.gov/public/american-indians/nc-tribal-communities
I hope this will convince you. Lonewolf2023 (talk) 16:44, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What are you trying to convince people of? The current article doesn't mention the "Chowanoke-Meherrin" and links to the Meherrin Indian Tribe. Anything further about the state-recognized tribe belongs on its new article. Also, please read Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry. Yuchitown (talk) 16:46, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]
