40th?
[edit]The only reference does not list Meagan as the 40th most popular name, it's actually down around 78. What do I make of this? 24.226.77.23 (talk) 13:02, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing this out, this was very helpful. I've gone and fixed it. Maikel (talk) 13:38, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't think we have to list every conceivable spelling of Megan here
[edit]the name megan = ridiculous sorry its a megan thing
yes, of corse we do ?!
That would just be a senseless list, unless some sort of relevance is proven for a particular exotic spelling. Thanks. Maikel (talk) 13:37, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]I've noticed an interesting difference in pronunciation between England and the US. In the US Megan seems to be pronounced /meɪgn/ (like "Magen"), while in England it tends to have a more regular pronunciation /mɛgn/ (first syllable rhymes with "leg"). Anyone care to confirm or deny my impressions? 69.12.144.158 (talk) 07:09, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- In Wales, Welsh speakers would pronounce it as 'Meh-ghan'. By the way just a question, Do you mean in England proper now, because Wales is not England. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.11.223.222 (talk) 16:41, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Meghan should always be spelt meghan never any other way. If people spell it another way they are comp;etely wrong because Meghan was traditionally from the name Margaret. It came from the Irish and the first spelling was M-E-G-H-A-N. Other spellimgs were made up from parents. If Meghan is not used right it insults some Irish because they thinki of it as an insult to their culture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.242.167.43 (talk) 23:19, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Notable Megans
[edit]Is it me, or are these all American? Since Megan is a Welsh name, surely there must be at least a few non-American notable Megans, even if the name is more popular in America?? Just seems odd that the whole list is of Americans. 86.181.127.102 (talk) 17:16, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]Remember that Megan is a Welsh name and although you're more likely to hear it pronounced in the Anglicized way, does not change how it was meant to be pronounced, in other words; English does not trump Welsh when Welsh is its origin, if however, the spelling has changed.. similar to the name 'Rhys' - (Anglicised) 'Reece', then of course you opt for the Anglicised pronunciation for the English spelling of rhys (reese) because it has been modified for the English tongue, but in the case of 'Megan' it has not changed.. and many English speakers have changed its spelling to match how they pronounce 'Megan' like Meagan or Maygan and that would be fine, just because English/American speakers pronounce letters phonetically different 'Ah to Uh' etc doesn't change the original pronunciation even if it sounds forreign to you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hogyncymru (talk • contribs) 20:45, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
Disgrace and donkey?
[edit]Whoever just made the edit to the definition completely made this up. Can someone please correct this page so whomever was jaded at a "Megan" and wrote the nonsense about the name being a disgrace in all of England and Wales as well as it being reserved for use by donkeys can knock it off? Haha. So dumb. Meggethann (talk) 03:15, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
Spelling variations
[edit]The article lists spelling variations without a source. Based on google searches for each variation in quotes, I will take out the ones with less than a million results, since they are obviously not common variations.
