Talk:Medical massage

This needs to be updated. The term "Medical Massage" is not yet defined by the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association), the AMBP (American Massage & Bodywork Professionals), COMTA (Commission On Massage Therapy Accreditation, nor the NCBMTB (National Certification Board for Massage Therapy and Bodywork). None of these associations recognize the term.

However, there are several schools and programs that now offer "Medical Massage" and there is a lot of debate as to the legitimacy of their claims, but it is more important to know that the "National Certification" mentioned in this article was a hoax. It doesn't exist. It was put together by a single individual that also ran the only school that was recognized by the "National Board". In fact, everyone else on the "Board" didn't know anything about the organization, their names were used to promote the site. This same individual then created the "American Medical Massage Therapy Association" (AMMTA) and the AMTA quickly moved to remove that title. He now calls it the AMMA, but is still not recognized by any of the afore mentioned organizations.

Hence, the importance of Wikipedia checking their sources first.

Necessary

Is this article even necessary, as it provides a total of one reference for the information contained, or would it be better to redirect to Medical Massage? --Bamboocup (talk) 04:02, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

To me, the term "Medical massage" seems to imply this is something within medicine, when that appears not to be the case at all. I find this misleading. As well, the text reads like a promotion of it.Marty55 (talk) 21:12, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
