Colours
[edit]I know why gloves are coloured purple or blue, its so the wearer can see if there is a tear in them, so there is another reason certain hospitals are changing to nitrile as opposed to latex, as latex is naturally white and so is skin so it is quite hard for the wearer of latex to see if there is a tear.
I will probably add this information to the article soon.
But feel free to add it for me.

- I have never heard that before. According to Kimberly-Clark, their Purple Nitrile gloves are purple so they are readily identified as being latex-free. Mike6271 02:08, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
- I know i wanted them to say it (purple being easy to see a tear in) on their website so i could cite that source but they dont. But years ago in first aids classes thats what they told my about why they are purple. Also since Kimbley-Clarke makes these gloves their going to be biased (slightly) saying that everyone knows these are latex-free, when no one does!

Actually, there are several companies that manufactures a coloured (usually green or blue) sterile surgical underglove to be worn under a cream/white sterile surgical overglove, in order to alert the clinician of punctures in the glove. The overglove allows very little light to pass through it, but when fluid of any kind gets between the layers, the colored glove shows through with a very intense and vibrant colour spot in the area of the puncture. 108.201.29.108 (talk) 04:48, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
permeability
[edit]please add a permeability table for various chemicals to various gloves: latex, nitrile, pvc, etc. 71.94.156.99 21:06, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Requst for an external link to articles on Surgical Scissors
External link to Surgical gloves article on Wikisurgery?
[edit]Wikisurgery has an article on the use of surgical gloves, not covered in the main Wipedia article on surgical gloves.
Wikipedia already has external links to Wikipedia articles ieScalpelRetractor (medical)Needle Haemostat Needle holder Forceps Scissors Surgical sutures
Would the editors care to include an external link to Wikisurgery's Surgical gloves article?Michael Harpur Edwards (talk) 12:06, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- Wikisurgery (which has nothing to do with Wikipedia) is a non-notable website; please see your talk page for the reasons why. Flowanda | Talk 06:32, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
And exactly why wouldn't wikisurgery be a "notable" website? I disagree with your stated reasons as being biased. It appears to be a rather large and credible encyclopedic compendium on the practice of surgery. 108.201.29.108 (talk) 04:53, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- It's a wiki--we don't even cite our own wiki on Wikipedia. And that article is horrible, poorly written, strangely formatted, and lacking any kind of citation. Drmies (talk) 05:14, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
Bloodborne diseases
[edit]I work as a First Aid volunteer with the British Red Cross and we have recently had it made procedure that all gloves used in first aid duties must be nitrile (as opposed to the vinyl previously used) as other glove materials are permeable to bloodborne viruses such as Hepatitis and HIV. I don't know what research was published to support this but I presume it must have some credibility as all gloves have been replaced at great expense and as our first aid services are now CQC compliant, I assume this is a national standard in UK healthcare. Hydrochloric acid
[edit]I used latex gloves yesterday to manipulate hydrochloric acid, thinking it would do nothing to the gloves, but it altered them, the gloves are now yellow and sticky That should be mentioned in the article, the chemicals for which you cannot use latex gloves — Preceding unsigned comment added by Granito diaz (talk • contribs) 19:01, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
- Wouldn't that go better in a discussion on the properties of latex gloves as opposed to a discussion on the types of medical gloves? I feel like that doesn't really belong in this article. Radioactivated (talk) 23:44, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Grammar issues
[edit]The part of "Alternatives..." has some SERIOUS grammar and redaction issues. I'd rather a good english speaker fixed it (I don't dare do it myself) 190.139.88.219 (talk) 21:17, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
I don't think the use of the word 'sewn' is correct in the following sentence - 'The sizing of surgical gloves are based on the measured circumference around the palm in inches, at a level slightly above the thumb's sewn.' I can't find any dictionary or reference guide where 'sewn' is used as a noun. All other occurrences of this phrase 'Thumb's sewn' seem to just be quotes of this wiki article.
