Merge

[edit]
  1. Merge Proposal —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lihmwiki (talkcontribs) 20:21, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think these two articles should be merged: MSTP is a certain subcategory of MD/PhD programs and by no means is representative of all. Additionally, MSTP does not include individuals who acquired both degrees separately.ripvanwinkle317 18:55, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think they should be merged, either. "MD/PhD" is a particularly common joint degree that has its own unique recognition. The program is basically an awards program for mdphds. --Lquilter (talk) 13:59, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I say no to a merge. I agree with the two above comments -- MSTP programs are funded by the NIH and are often more competitive than non-MSTP MD/PhD programs. Please see: http://www.nigms.nih.gov/Training/InstPredoc/PredocOverview-MSTP.htm , which states, "The MSTP currently has 40 participating programs involving 45 degree-granting institutions with a total of 933 trainees. (There are approximately 75 medical schools that do not have NIGMS MSTP training grants but that also offer opportunities for M.D.-Ph.D. studies.)" 13 April 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.175.167.160 (talk) 07:20, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I say no to the merge as well. The two articles have very different focuses. Dumaka (talk) 13:09, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't merge, its a sufficiently separate topic as evidence by the significant number of MD/PhD programs. I would like to see it expanded to cover the equivalents in other countries. Xasodfuih (talk)

Information in "Curent Programs" Table

[edit]

Are the current columns "Institution, Year Funded, Website, Annual Stipend, and Allied Institutions" the most relevant? Specifically, I am wondering about whether it is worth including a link to each program's website within the column, the initial year the school received MSTP funding, and the size of the annual stipend. Most of the stipends are relatively close to each other; it seems like other variables such as overall number of students, number of NIH-funded slots/year, etc. would be more informative. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:3080:404:E994:99E:425D:1C0F (talk) 15:59, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The content below is not what we do here. We are WP:NOTDIRECTORY and a bunch of the content is unsourced and undated; what is source is often taken from the program's website and this compilation is therefore OR on that level as well.

Year Founded v. MSTP Award Year

[edit]

In the programs table, should we change the "Year Founded" column to "MSTP Award Year" or something similar? I noticed an inconsistency in the founding years between the originally MSTP-funded MD–PhD programs (There are multiple references to this page: https://web.archive.org/web/20120616091230/https://publications.nigms.nih.gov/reports/mstpstudy) and the MD–PhD and DVM–PhD programs that started off as internally-funded by their institutions before acquiring MSTP funding decades later. I believe "MSTP Award Year" with a cited NIH RePORTER MSTP project funding information page would make more sense. Goldranger2099 (talk) 22:37, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MD–PhD and DVM–PhD

[edit]

Since MSTP grants can fund both MD–PhD and DVM–PhD programs, should we dedicate a new section to the differences in training for DVM–PhD candidates? Likewise, should the programs table indicate whether an institution has an MSTP-funded MD–PhD, DVM–PhD, or both? Goldranger2099 (talk) 22:47, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
