Talk:Meat loaf
Redirection
[edit]I've edited this back, looking at the history this page has been swapped back and forth from Meat Loaf (singer) to Meatloaf (food). The food item is one word (meatloaf) the singer is two worrds (Meat Loaf) is someone enters Meat loaf in to wikipedia then chances are they are looking for the singer as apposed to the food item.
please leave this page as it is from now on. Kejoxen 18:16, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
@Prisencolin:, check the pageviews that I posted in the RM in response to one of your comments. [1] Increases in page views for "Meat Loaf" are almost always matched by increases in page views for "Meat loaf" - esp. June 17. This makes sense as people searching "meat loaf" in the search bar are likely looking for the singer and won't use capitalization. It would be unhelpful to point this at "meatloaf" which is clearly not what readers are looking for. Nohomersryan (talk) 00:13, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- Consider WP:SYSTEMATICBIAS in this case. People don't normally look up food as much as they do entertainment figures, but that doesn't meant that the latter are more important to society. Also, a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT that directs this page to meatloaf better fits the criteria found at Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Determining_a_primary_topic:
- "Historical age", (meatloaf is way older)
- "If a topic was the original " (singer is named after the food)
- "Principal relevance only to certain people groups" (Meat Loaf the singer is only relevant to fans of his work).
- "If a topic has only ascended to widespread notability and prominence recently"

- Why yes, meat loaf being the primary topic of meatloaf certainly satisfies the criteria that's under "we do not generally consider any one of the following criteria as a good indicator of primary topic". So... none of that is relevant. The above seems based on the idea that Meat Loaf is not the primary topic for his name, which is clearly not the consensus as your RM proved. The redirect should stay (and per WP:BRD, your change of a long-standing redirect is the one that should be discussed, not attempting to keep it as is). Nohomersryan (talk) 05:30, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- I am aware that the other criteria listed for PRIMARYTOPIC are not to be given as much weight, but they should still be given consideration.--Prisencolin (talk) 23:39, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
