Maya Higa Apparently Wearing Engagement Ring
[edit]On about May 25, 2023, Maya started wearing what appears to be an engagement ring on her left hand ring finger, but I cannot find any commentary on her Youtube channels and it doesn't appear that anyone else has noticed. Genepoz01 (talk) 04:16, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Okay. It's a "friendship ring," commonly used by not yet ready to get married but committed couples. Were an uncommon sight when I was in MY 20s. lol Genepoz01 (talk) 07:31, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

BLP Policy regarding accusations
[edit]Reviewing the recent additions regarding accusations
Reference to the specific BLP Policy for page edits:
"Notice about sources This article must adhere to the biographies of living persons policy, even if it is not a biography, because it contains material about living persons. Take extra care to use high-quality sources. Material about living persons should not be added when the only sourcing is tabloid journalism; see more information on sources. Never use self-published sources about a living person unless written or published by the subject; see WP:BLPSPS and WP:BLPSELFPUB.
Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous. If such material is repeatedly inserted, or if you have other concerns, please report the issue to this noticeboard."
The two primary considerations with BLP articles are the following:
1. Use high quality sources
WP:RS WP:BLPPRIMARY WP:BLPSPS
These sources are not high quality - All of these sources are either primary sources (the subject defending herself) or a synthesis of primary sources : aggregations of tweets, streaming video transcriptions and social gossip / social news sites that would not qualify as significant or reliable reporting. The source of all cited information from this event appears to be self published accusations or defenses with no fact checking or investigation - a news article that aggregates and repeats self published sources does not become a reliable secondary source by republishing.
Due to the lack of reliable sources reporting on this, the veracity of the subject matter cannot be established and the event is of questionable notability without continued coverage or more serious reporting being done.
2. Avoid potentially libelous information
Wikipedia:Libel WP:BLPSELFPUB
BLP Policy clearly states that they should err on the side of privacy and respect for the BLP subject in cases where there could be libelous or defamatory statements. The self published statement made in defense by the subject of this BLP clearly states that there were false allegations and misrepresentations of the truth which is the definition of libel/defamation. (@mayahiga (September 25, 2022). "My final statement". Twitlonger / Twitter. Archived from the original on September 25, 2022.)
Whether or not this actually is defamation or reaches the legal definition of libel in any jurisdiction is outside the scope of this article and not a question to be answered by Wikipedia editors. However, given the recency of the event, the lack of quality notable reporting, controversial nature, and statement by the page subject it would appear to qualify it as potentially libelous or defamatory and thus should not be included.
---
As general guidelines the BLP document and other Wikipedia guides go into more detail on additional points that would imply this event is not a good topic to be included on a Wikipedia page.
WP:BLPBALANCE, WP:WIKIVOICE, WP:WEIGHT, WP:INDISCRIMINATE, WP:BLPGOSSIP - "Avoid gossip and feedback loops", WP:AVOIDVICTIM - "Avoid victimization", WP:BLPCRIME - "editors must seriously consider not including material—in any article—that suggests the person has committed, or is accused of having committed, a crime, unless a conviction has been secured.", WP:SOAPBOX, WP:NOTSCANDAL, WP:NOTNEWS, WP:BLPCOI, WP:CRYSTALBALL, WP:RUMOR
If this is a notable event and significant enough to be included it is likely that a more reliable source for citing will document the information and establish that basis instead of temporary contemporaneous social news or Wikipedia editors.
Additional Wikipedia polices that are relevant:
Wikipedia:Recentism, Wikipedia:There_is_no_deadline, Wikipedia:Eventualism
Removing these details now does not imply that they will not prove more relevant over time, if there is continued coverage in more reliable sources then the section should be reviewed, possibly moving to the Personal Life section or a controversy subsection. As it stands there does not seem to be a sufficient convergence of factors to cover this event with these sources.

- Funny that Mizkif's Wikipedia article keeps the CrazySlick controversy intact, but here we have the white knights who are fighting desperately to keep Maya's name from being thrown in the mud. If an editor(s) is removing or adding content with biased framing, it is within Wikipedia's best interest that the editor refrain from making further changes and/or giving input on the article. Uziel Grey (talk) 01:17, 27 November 2022 (UTC)
- If you want to actually add to the merits of the BLP discussion feel free but your assessment is wrong.
- And just to clarify, I did attempt to clean up and/or remove any issues from Mizkif's page as well but it's a protected page and no one has responded on the talk page other than to close the edit request. I assume if these pages received more scrutiny they would be cleaned up as many of these BLP pages have serious issues with content and sourcing. But that's for another time, since you're here and seem to be concerned please feel free to update Mizkif's page and remove any BLP issues/problems there. The overall situation is still slightly more relevant for Mizkif due to the involvement by OTK and additional allegations so I suggested the section on his page should be similar to the OTK section that addresses this issue, but even that may not be warranted on a BLP page without better sources - for the many reasons mentioned throughout the Wikipedia BLP policy guidelines. 47.234.137.203 (talk) 17:12, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- All mention of Higa's involvement in the controversy has been completely wiped clean from her article. There is no need to open up a "Controversy" header on her page, simply just "[Higa] paused her streaming on Twitch due of allegations implementing her in covering up sexual assault" is a warranted and sound statement to be made. Editors are making excuses to protect Higa's integrity by actively assuring that the controversy as a whole is not mentioned in any capacity to her biography. I see no other reason for this besides biased editing. Higa came forward with a twitter post and stated she was stepping away indefinitely because of the allegation; that isn't suggestive material, that is a direct statement of her involvement in the controversy. Add a mention that Maya Higa and Ryan Higa are not related
[edit]With all results on Google and the many attempt submissions, it may be worth mentioning that despite common confusion, Maya and Ryan are not related. Dotracc (talk) 20:30, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- there's no need to add that on the actual article as its mostly trivia stuff, this topic on the talk page should be enough if there's gonna be other people adding the edits. Http iosue (talk) 22:24, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- There have been a non-zero number of people who have confused the relation between Maya and Ryan Higa (you've spoken to two of them just now). Especially for those who aren't well-informed about the situation, the difficulty in ascertaining the sarcasm in the claims that they are related online means that the information is certainly not trivial. The majority of those who use Wikipedia do not (and shouldn't be expected to) check the edit history or the talk page, so placing the information somewhere in the article would not be against WP:HTRIVIA. Invisi-splat (talk) 22:58, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- might need a more experienced editor for more opinion about this stuff; other than that, maybe we could put a FAQ on the talk page as a solution. tagging Troutfarm27, Sahaib. Http iosue (talk) 00:02, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply. I get how there are a number of people who confuse the two but it doesn't seem significant enough to be mentioned. Not many sources mention the topic and the few that do sometimes can it wrong. (like this one https://www.tubefilter.com/2023/10/04/qt-cinderella-maya-higa-gala-for-good-charity-rainforest/).
