To do
[edit]Currently the article focusses on Tegmarks "hobby" (interpretations of QM), and gives only sparse info about his main research area and his biography. At least the data available from his page http://web.mit.edu/physics/facultyandstaff/faculty/max_tegmark.html needs to be taken into account. --Pjacobi (talk) 22:05, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
"infer a theory of consciousness from quantum effects, "
can be found on Orch-OR, perhaps a link to this page might be helpful?

Meaningless?
[edit]The following paragraph seems to contain little in the way of unambiguous mathematical meaning, so I have removed it in its entirety.

- How are you aware of the motivation of a post from 4 years ago? IRWolfie- (talk) 13:49, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

"The computational expression of a single random number between one and zero (with all its infinite decimals) is longer than the computational expression of the whole set of numbers that exist between 1 and 0, so it may be more informationally economical for reality to consist of infinite parallel universes instead of just one. The computer code for such a computation is only two lines long."

- I guess the part about reality consisting of infinite parallel universes does not entirely follow from the preceding statement. Perhaps the quote is best understood in context. --AB (talk) 09:07, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Notability tag
[edit]Adding the notability tag is a postive thing, it encourages others to add secondary sources to help establish notability. It is not necessarily a precursor to deletion/AfD nomination. IRWolfie- (talk) 10:46, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Orch OR
[edit]Max Tegmark is often quoted for his paper claiming to refute Orch OR. It's a bit surprising this isn't mentioned in this article.Persephone19 (talk) 16:47, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
his father
[edit]In terms of clarity of the article, was his father a professor emeritus when he was born? Or is that a description at the time of writing? --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 17:30, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
Deep learning research
[edit]As of late, Max has had a few articles on deep learning on arxiv.[1] --Acyclic (talk) 18:17, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
Name change
[edit]Why note that he originally had his father’s surname without noting in the article when and why he changed it? To note that he had been born Max Shapiro implies that he later changed it as opposed to his having had his mother’s surname on his birth certificate. Therefore, the information that he had been originally Shapiro must have a source. At the very least, the source presumably tells when he changed it if not why.HistoryBuff14 (talk) 19:52, 4 August 2017 (UTC)
See the new section below. Surely there is no better source than Max himself on this.
He actually wrote about the usage of decision mathematics
[edit]His mistake is that not a single system of all universes exists for reasons similar but not identical to why there is no set of all sets.
OK his effort is huge. He said everything but not analytically enough. He's not the center of the universe. His main idea is correct. We have to create a Wikipedia page on Tegmarkism. Ok we don't have. We have the Mathematical Universe Hypothesis, but then we have to create the mathematical universe grouping hypothesis in which not all universes are mathematically compatible to be expressed under the same theory for metalogical and even more obvious reasons.
Ask Max himself. But give him time to think. Don't stress him like an enemy. We need to know reality. It's not the point to stress Max or make him say something immediately as a smartypants. He's good. He makes improvements. He's fine. He is alive and ever-self-updating (some people believe knowledge is static). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:587:4102:F9F8:3115:2076:E565:ADA1 (talk) 02:51, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
surname
[edit]In his book Our Mathematical Universe, Tegmark tells when and why and where he changed his surname. I have corrected the text. One of the references already there I can’t check, the other explicitly states that he later changed his name well after he was a teenager, thus at least that reference doesn’t support the former text.
citizenship
[edit]Only the English Wikipedia claims that Tegmark has Canadian citizenship, but there is no reference. It should thus be removed unless a reference is supplied.
