Seems that lots of people really hate this guy's balls.
[edit]I've been looking at the article's history page, and I think it's safe to say that Mawi's page is, relatively speaking, one of the most vandalized pages in Wikipedia.
I wonder why. :-)
- What did his balls do to deserve this?! LogicalFinance33 (talk) 06:51, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Mawi is a phenomenon to Malaysian music arena. He appeared in the midst of musical entertainment slide over the past few years with local albums sales not reaching more than 50,000 units.
Mawi entered a reality show Akademi Fantasia where the contestants were pulled together in a secluded location for vocal, singing, dance, appearance training for about 3 months. Every week the contestents had to perform in front of professional jury, live audience and telecast live to the Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and East of Indonesia. One contestant would be voted out by audience via Short Messaging Services (SMS) each week until the finale where the contestant with highest number of SMS votes would be declared the winner.
Mawi came to the scene in an uneventful way. In the Prelude week, he sang a religious musical genre and eventually was not selected by the professional jury. He was the first ever singers out of three Akademia Fantasia series who had sung this musical genre. However due to overwhelming pressures from the public, he was re-selected in the first week concert with another contestant Marsha via a second round of selection.
Soon after, weeks after weeks he overtook all the other contestants in term of votes until the final concert when he was declared the champion as well as best performance and vocal. He had to sing all musical genre along the way.
His album based on his performance from the Akademia Fantasia weekly concerts were compiled two weeks after that and 170,000 were sold. A record for 2 weeks old professional singer. His scheduled were so tight after that that he could not have enough rest as he had to perform concerts over concerts as he was in high demand from the public.
Magazines and newspapers would sell like hot cakes just because his face is on the cover or a story is written about him in the contents. Undoubtedly, magazines and newspapers sales are currently on the up trend and of course nobody is complaining.
Last but not least, Mawi is a male, a macho, complete male and are liked by all gender, all age range and family status. Believe it or not.

To be honest and with due respect to the author of the interesting tidbit on Mawi above, I can't see any relevance of this piece of work in connection with the proper use of the 'Talk' page. I can understand that fans of an idol may praise their star to the skies but I don't think that Wikipedia is a proper tool for promotion of any particular artiste. Shadowing this intention by heaping praise in the 'Talk' page of the subject matter will not mislead anyone. Take a look at any other 'Talk' pages and it's highly likely that there won't be any shallow championing of one's idol. Remember, Wikipedians are not fooled by what one claims to be important. Let the true facts speak for themselves. My point is: go create your own website if you want to dedicate something to your idol. 58.71.154.25

- Fair criticism is not the same as vandalism. In the meantime, I'd suggest you go work on your grammar first.
Removed comment re being a hypoctritical artist. This is a POV and the a comment on a blog is not a reference under Wiki guidelines.) The reference merely indicates the existence of such POV, rather than expounding the POV itself. I think InternationalHit2 is having a hard time differentiating a POV ("he's a hypocrite") and a fact stating the POV exists ("there has been criticism that he's hypocritical", followed by a sample of such criticism - note that the validity of the criticism itself is not being debated - rather, it is being pointed out that such criticism, valid or otherwise, exists). Vandalism to such people is when people don't agree with his POV apparently. And yes, his grammar leaves a lot to be desired. Is he sure he's living in the UK and has an MSc? I must be from Mars then with a PhD.

Umm, no personal attacks please. While I concur with you that InternationalHit2 has a rather poor command of the written language, we should not be bashing each other with sarcasm/nasty comments on Wikipedia.
Have a nice day.
I did InternationalHit2's mom, but I certainly did not spawn such an awful specimen of the human race. Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 175.141.5.152 (talk) 06:46, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
finally, someone has some sense knocked into them.
[edit]There has been criticism that Mawi is overrated and hypocritical, given his "religious" background, but is fiercely denied by his fan base who go to the extent of actually flooding blogs critical of him with hate comments [1]. It has been said that this reflects the sad sore need of the Malays for a role model, and the general mindset of that ethnic community, revering artists only a degree short of a deity.
good shot!
cheers, man. ja bless.
Mawi a secular Muslim?
[edit]I dont know why someone put Secular Muslims category here. I dont think that he belongs to any liberal/secular Islam organisation. He's a Sunni Muslim.
When he joined Akademi Fantasia, he seems to be a relgious person because he sang nasheed (islamic songs). But now.... he doesnt show that he is as Islamist as before.... (it just my humble personal opinion) Kulim 07:40, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
