(Otters Crossing)

[edit]

The statement about otters being "Road Kill" is at best a myth. It is an extremely rare happening, maybe one every year, at worst, as they are very secretive creatures, unless you know where to watch them. This myth could be perpetuated by the sign at Mavis Grind which says; "Caution Otters Crossing".
I have never seen one on the road and I drive over 30,000 miles per year on the islands.
But I am lucky enough to have pictures of them when they thought they weren't being watched.

It does happen periodically I suppose. I've seen dead otters by the roadside (not in Shetland BTW!) You're probably right, it's the sign that's given someone this conclusion. That or someone's seen an otter corpse somewhere. --MacRusgail 15:22, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was me. I have been across Mavis Grind a few times and seen the signs and made asssumptions, I suppose. I have changed the last bit of that paragraph for something a bit more upbeat.Tony Corsini (talk) 10:50, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
