I believe he self-identifies as Scottish, although he is English born.

The origin seems obscure. Of birth records with the surname in England & Wales, the vast majority are in Sunderland or nearby, starting in 1875. Nick Cooper (talk) 19:11, 25 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
