[edit]The lack of any negative literary criticism in this article is rather telling. Serious critics will point out that Reilly's work lacks any character depth or philosophy, is a rough stapling of tired Hollywood cliches, and has descriptive narrative akin to that produced by primary school students. The only praise this obviously fan-maintained (or Reilly-maintained) article could dig up was that the books are very fast. Very good, but if that's all you've got then it ain't much.
The fact of the matter is that Matthew Reilly is a terrible writer and his books are primarily digested by semi-literate young people who never read a REAL book. They're insanely unrealistic, way beyond any reasonable level of willing suspension of disbelief. They're filled with cardboard stereotypes and inane flat dialogue. He's also a blatant self-promoting egotist who had to mooch money off his family in order to SELF-publish his silly juvenile drivel. Ooooh, and now he drives a DeLorean! What a poser.
Anyway, if the article is to be taken seriously as unbiased then you should include both positive AND negative literary reviews.

Can I suggest that this discussion page be improved by replacing the above (unnecessarily angry) tirade with something like 'shouldn't the article include more balances reviews of Reilly's work?' - might be a little more in keeping with the idea of Wikipedia?

How is it possible that the first ever free online book was released in 2004, titled "Hover Car Racer" and was by this author? --Phil Harnish (Info | Talk) 15:11, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- You want to suggest an earlier example? I've never heard of any. Tyrhinis 16:42, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- There is no easy way to find that information. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is just the source to turn to. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. Though, I will do some googling around to see what turns up. I realize this case is specifically referring to an author releasing his own work, but websites like Project Gutenberg have been around for a long time. Wouldn't it also be possible to find countless instances where authors have released work online? What constitutes a "book"? Here is an example someone pointed out to me as well: The Cathedral and the Bazaar. --Phil Harnish (Info | Talk) 21:27, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you can definitely find Hover Car Racer in PDF format on the 'Net. Matthew Reilly uploaded to his website for his fans to read. It's perfectly legal since Mathew Reilly himself uploaded it.

For the record
[edit]Matthew Reilly is one of my favourite authors, up there with Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Victor Hugo. I'm not kidding - his books are the fastest paced books I've ever read and I enjoy them thoroughly!
Matthew, if you ever read this, please keep pumping them out! - Ta bu shi da yu 15:38, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
I'll make this simple. Please this isn't a shout box. This isn't a fansite, take your comments somewhere else.
Rumours
[edit]I just deleted this part...
"It is rumoured that Shane Schofield (from Ice Station, Area 7, Scarecrow and Hell Island), will meet with Jack West, Jr. (from Seven Ancient Wonders) in future Reilly books."
I read up on the MR forums alot, and I've never heard from an MR interview or something like that about a crossover. I don't think MR can write about them as a small part, and they are two big to have in the same story.
But put it back in if I'm wrong.Columnmn 04:17, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Col
Do we need this page.
[edit]Since there isn't an article for the a-bomb guy, shouldn't it go straight to the authors page?Columnmn 06:55, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Suggestion
[edit]Perhaps it should be mentioned that his trailer was uniquely impressive in that it involved advanced and expensive special effects of an alien. Apparently the movie companies were used to receiving plain footage of people just doing simple acting. From the top of my head I think all this information was available from one of the "interviews" in the back of one of his books, so it could be sourced from that.
Also, this looks like a typo with handling a link: "Matthew Reilly has announced on his [www.thepresidian.net/ fansite] during his..." Cyanara 02:50, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
I think it was in one of MR's journals, but its not important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.67.111.22 (talk) 15:05, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Six Ancient Stones?
[edit]Is it absolutely confirmed that he is even writing the book? Is it possible a user might be using his account on that fan-forum to make up a rumour? It's just that there's been nothing on his website or in any interviews about a new novel, and Six Ancient Stones sounds like a pretty silly title for a book. Some conformation that can be verified to be Matthew Reilly would be nice. Bronzey 12:15, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- In the past, the information given there by Matthew has been reliable, the title is 6 Sacred Stones, not ancient. Also, seeing his website is only updated once every few months, as opposed to the potential regularity of a fansite, so I wouldn't lose too much sleep just yet, especially if it's stated that it isn't yet confirmed. He has leaked titles of previous works in the past before official announcments, or other news etc. BradK 13:09, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- He's just announced on his blog (3rd Jan) that it is indeed happening and that is the title. 86.138.15.127 14:22, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, the book has already been printed out and released in bookstores in Australia.
Website
[edit]Does anyone now what is happening with the website at the moment it's just weird, hopefully it'll be fixed soon --124.177.97.55 13:06, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- Judging by the fact it hasn't been updated in ages, I'd say it's shut down or Matthew has forgotten it exists :P. It links to a piano player now, so I don't know what's happening. Bronzey 05:05, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- There is a note at The Presidan 'There has been a technical error of some description. Matthew and Roy are working on mending the issue'. The MR site is also 404ing as of 5 dec. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.87.64.140 (talk) 11:10, 5 December 2006 (UTC).

School
[edit]I am going to change the school reference to something non-specific for now because people keep changing from one of two schools. until someone can show a reference saying where he went to high school, please leave it as not mentioned BradK 13:28, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
In the interview at the end of Scarecrow, he says that he went to "St Aloysius' College". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.170.40.121 (talk) 09:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
From MR's blog, on the subject of Wikipedia: "...it has me going to some school I’ve never even heard of..." Presumably referring to Mt. Austin High School. Middlerun (talk) 10:19, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Change of Page Name
[edit]Since Matthew Reilly redirects to Matthew Reilly (writer), shouldn't we change the page name? There is no other Matthew Reilly on Wikipedia.
WP reference
[edit]Reilly referenced this article in his latest blog entry, stating that it is pretty inaccurate. I don't know if it's notable enough to include within the article, but it should be some inspiration to clean-up the article. Blackngold29 04:01, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- That link is dead, but the same thing has been published in the Q&A section at the end of "The Five Greatest Warriors". I wonder if it still holds true? 121.98.206.62 (talk) 10:14, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Suggestion for 'heroes
[edit]Maybe it's just me, but when I first read 'Reilly's heroes', I assumed it was referring to 'childhood' heroes of Reilly himself - wouldn't a term like 'protagonists' be clearer?

Requested move
[edit]Matthew Reilly (writer) → Matthew Reilly — As someone pointed out last year, above, there is no need for the disambiguation as there is no article about any other Matthew Reilly. PamD (talk) 07:56, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- Support. This article appears to be the result of a cut-and-paste move from Matthew Reilly on 6 September 2005.
A history merger may be in order.Station1 (talk) 21:25, 6 July 2009 (UTC)- Good catch. I've tagged the article for history merge. Jafeluv (talk) 10:08, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

what he thinks of wikipedia
[edit]in the end of his interview in "5 greatest warriors", he stated that wikipedia is mostly inaccurate, stating that it contains 7 basic errors about him. Im not sure what they are, but someone needs to check and double-check the information provided. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zamtam (talk • contribs) 23:36, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Too promotional
[edit]The article as written is basically promoting this author and his books. It looks like it is written by fans, for fans. I'm not saying there should be criticisms or anything like that, it's just that the tone is rather enthusiastic.157.182.105.1 (talk) 03:19, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]I propose that Hover Car Racer, Jack West Jr, Seven Ancient Wonders (, The Six Sacred Stones, , The Five Greatest Warriors, Contest , Temple (1999),The Tournament, Shane Schofield, Ice Station, Area 7, Scarecrow, Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves and Hell Island be merged into Matthew Reilly. I think that the content in the articles about Reilly's novels that that is notable is best explained in the context of Matthew Reilly and the Matthew Reilly article would still be reasonably sized.Overagainst (talk) 14:21, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
