Suggestions welcome

After creating the page I added a few additional references, citations, and external links to support the information. There are several items to show Matthew Kelly's credentials as an international speaker and best selling author.

Not clear on what other additions may be needed or what may be biased about the article, but I'm happy to address any concerns. Thanks! Yobbo14 (talk) 02:35, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Appreciating the progress that has been made, the two angles of concern are:
  • Textual: still an overuse of terms like "message of hope and inspiration"; I appreciate that such is the raison d'etre of a motivational speaker, but for an encyclopaedia it is better to stick close with just the facts;
  • References: Most are too close to the author - his own site, publisher, booking agency (the last of which really doesn't belong here); the National Catholic Register one is best as a reliable source- more such would help.
AllyD (talk) 21:14, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

I certainly appreciate the info on items to address. I'll continue to modify things accordingly and also work on introducing other sources to support the article. Thanks. Yobbo14 (talk) 10:53, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

And watch the similarity of the text to other copyrighted websites. Whole sentences seem to have been cut and pasted from sites such as http://www.matthewkelly.org/about or http://www.matthewkelly.com/ The-Pope (talk) 09:11, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

No...didn't cut and paste, but I understand what you're getting at. Wanted to present information that was consistent with the websites, but going forward I'll adjust accordingly. Thanks. Yobbo14 (talk) 15:30, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

My contributions to Wikipdeia are limited, so I'm not clear on the protocol for removing the notices applied at the beginning of the article (multiple issues, neutrality concerns, etc.). Does an admin remove these notices after a later review - or is it my call to remove them once I feel these issues have been resolved? Thanks. Yobbo14 (talk) 15:36, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Any editor can remove the tags. For an article that you created, or substantially contributed to, you should try hard to be objective about the article and the tags, but you're still allowed to remove them if you think the issues have been addressed. For any editor putting tags on articles, taking them off, or even putting back tags that were removed, I would encourage discussion on the article's talk page, it helps everyone involved to improve the article, and of course we've had some of that in this case. Mudwater (Talk) 16:45, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I went ahead and removed the tag indicating an issue with notability. Google his name (as lecturer) and plenty comes up to suggest he's a fairly well-known speaker, and not limited to a specific group. I suppose there are a few more references I can locate and include - and perhaps some tweaks to the text. But I think the adjustments I've made so far have helped. Any specific suggestions would be helpful. Thanks again. Yobbo14 (talk) 17:19, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

The article is now worded in a more neutral and less promotional way than it was before. So, I'm going to remove the POV tag ("The neutrality of this article is disputed"). Mudwater (Talk) 13:38, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

It seems that most of the issues have been addressed (citations for verification and self-published sources) to warrant removing some of the tags. Certainly if there are any specific concerns, I'm happy to address them. Thanks to everyone who has been assisting. Yobbo14 (talk) 20:18, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

This is Jenna from Dynamic Catholic - at Matthew Kelly's office. This page needs some updates. Matthew has changed his focus - most noticeably, the audiences he speaks to quite a bit in the last couple years. I understand that as a close source to Matthew, it might be best for me to start out by making suggestions on this talk page rather than make the changes myself.

Occupation

Occupation- Matthew is not a motivational speaker. Any speaking by Matthew is for a Catholic audience. Requested edit- Occupation - Catholic speaker, author, business consultant

Do you have a source for those occupations? That would help me. He is described as a motivational speaker here and that is less connected to him directly than most of the sources on the page. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 20:59, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

First paragraph Notes: 1) As noted above, Matthew is not a motivational speaker 2) Nearly 90% of of Matthew's work is housed under either 1) The Dynamic Catholic Institute or 2) Floyd Consulting. We do not do much with The Matthew Kelly Foundation anymore.

Requested edit- Matthew Kelly (born July 12, 1973 in Sydney, Australia) is a Catholic speaker, author and business consultant. In 2009, Kelly founded The Dynamic Catholic Institute to research why Catholics engage or disengage and explore what it will take to establish vibrant Catholic communities in the 21st Century. He is also a partner at Floyd Consulting, a Chicago based management and consulting firm.

Please provide a source for this. See WP:RS for why we prefer independent, third-party sources. This is also excessively promotional. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 20:59, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Career

Requested edit- Kelly began his speaking and writing career in 1993. Since that time, he has written fourteen books and spoken to more than four million people in fifty countries. Today, Matthew's main focus is on his work at The Dynamic Catholic Institute, where he serves as the president and CEO.

There is no source for this either. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 20:59, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Current work Requested edit-

The Dynamic Catholic Institute

In 2009, Matthew Kelly founded The Dynamic Catholic Institute to research why Catholics engage or disengage and explore what it will take to establish vibrant Catholic communities in the 21st Century. On November 1, 2012, Kelly released the findings of the research in a book entitled The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic: How Engaging 1% of Catholics Could Change the World.

Today, Dynamic Catholic’s main focus is on developing resources and learning systems for the Catholic Church. Most recently, Dynamic Catholic launched DECISION POINT, an online and DVD based Confirmation Program. DECISION POINT features 72 short films and online workbooks that are available for free to parishes and dioceses.

Dynamic Catholic’s mission is to re-energize the Catholic Church in America by developing world-class resources that inspire people to rediscover the genius of Catholicism.

Floyd Consulting

Founded by Matthew Kelly, Floyd Consulting serves CEOs, executive teams, managers, individual departments, and companies. Floyd’s philosophy is that your company can only become the-best-version-of-itself to the extent that your people are becoming-better-versions-of-themselves.

The Matthew Kelly Foundation

The Matthew Kelly Foundation was established in 1995 to help young people discover their mission in life. The Foundation’s most recent initiative is a grade school program entitled, Why Am I Here?

These are excessively promotional language.-- Ricky81682 (talk) 20:59, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Good morning. It has been a couple weeks since I posted the requested edits above and I have not heard anything back from the original creators of the page. After doing some research on Wikipedia guidelines, I learned that it is best for those with a possible conflict of interest to make edit requests on the talk page rather than directly making the edits. However, if I do not hear anything by Monday morning (9:00 EST) I plan to make the proposed changes as listed above. I believe the edits I propose above contain neutral language and comply with Wikipedia's neutrality guidelines. I do hope to hear from someone soon.

--Jenna at DCI (talk) 13:18, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Ok - no problem - I can see that now that I take a second look. I just went back through my above edits and deleted Peacock terms. Is this suitable? If not, what specifically needs to change in order to post the above requested edits? Thanks for your help. --Jenna at DCI (talk) 15:34, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

From Matthew Kelly's office at Dynamic Catholic

Hello, my name is Jenna and I work with Matthew Kelly at Dynamic Catholic.

In an effort to improve our brand and provide the most accurate information available, Matthew has requested that I make significant edits to this page and I would like to notify the users involved before doing this. I certainly do appreciate your good efforts to promote Matthew Kelly, but at this point, Matthew Kelly would like to take over his Wikipedia page.

I have prepared the text that Matthew has asked me to use, and would like to make these changes as soon as possible. This would mean pasting over the information currently on the page.

DynamicCatholicInstitute (talk) 18:33, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

  • That is not proper behaviour here: the subject does not own the page for him to "take over". Concepts of "improve our brand" and "promote" are utterly foreign to Wikipedia. Please read WP:COI. AllyD (talk) 18:50, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
I am new to Wikipedia, so I appreciate you sharing this information with me. I will do some research before making any edits. Please AGF that we only want to provide the most up to date and accurate information possible. DynamicCatholic (talk) 20:05, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
@AllyD: - Hi - I just wanted to let you know this is the username I will be using moving forward. I have made a request to block the DynamicCatholic and DynamicCatholicInstitute usernames - and that request was granted. Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#Two_editors_on_Matthew_Kelly_.28speaker.29 Regarding Matthew Kelly's page, more than anything, it just needs updated with current information and projects Matthew is focusing on. Again, please know that I will not move forward before having a better understanding of Wikipedia. --Jenna at DCI (talk) 15:23, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
