[edit]Although I understand the reasons for the sentiment, is the line "He lived and died a true hero's way" really entirely suitable for a biography page?
His actions showed he was a professional soldier; surely that is commendation enough? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.120.222.100 (talk) 13:38, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

pls read the OP Red Wings article, the enemy force of 80-100 fighters was made up in Luttrell´s book and is not true at all, the real number based on HUMINT was 8-10 (!) enemy fighters under Shas Command who executed the ambush, no more enemies were involveld. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.61.85.219 (talk) 23:01, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

[edit]'For their heroism in combat Axelson and Dietz were posthumously awarded the Navy Cross, the Navy's second highest award for valor'
As that small accolade seems to be the most noteworthy aspect of this trivial article; I nominate it for deletion.Beingsshepherd (talk) 04:13, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Beingsshepherd

S. Rich, I know he was a person, and isn't a memorial. But he is portrayed in the memorial. I rather doubt we will have a free standing article on the memorial itself (although there could be). 7&6=thirteen (☎) 16:24, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
In 2015 the United States Naval Sea Cadets in Yuba City, CA named a unit in his honor and became commissioned in 2016. This unit is recognized as being the fastest growing unit in the history of the USNSCC. Matthew Axelson lived in Yuba City, CA at the time of his death and was building a house. This is the hometown of Cindy Axelson and her family. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.161.179.115 (talk) 08:59, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
