Question
"Millen is noted for having won a Super Bowl (two with the Raiders - one in Oakland and one in Los Angeles) with every team he played for."
However, Millen played for the Redskins and 49ers. If he won a Super Bowl with them, all we need to do is write Redskins. If not, that sentence needs to be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.55.75.106 (talk) 19:35, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- I don't see what's wrong with it. He won a Super Bowl with the Oakland (1980) and LA (1983) incarnations of the Raiders; as well as with the 49ers (1989) and Redskins (1991). --OntarioQuizzer 18:57, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
- Millen was deactivated for Super Bowl XXVI, so I don't know if you could accurately say that he won a Super Bowl with the Redskins. Aplomado 01:52, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Millen is noted for being the only player in NFL history to win 4 championships with 3 different teams (Raiders, 49ers, and Redskins), and brought championships to 4 different cities. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bushfan (talk • contribs) on March 25, 2006.
- Okayyy... so you posted this because you want it in the article? I'm confused. Aplomado - UTC 20:05, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- I wrote that because: 1. technically what has been written is not accurate; and 2. regarding all the language about the Raiders, the way it is written is somewhat confusing and is unncessary. It is not an addition; more along the lines of pointing out a mis-statement. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bushfan (talk • contribs) on March 27, 2006.
- Could you sign your comments please? BTW, I don't feel that is accurate to say he won 4 championships with 3 different teams since he was deactivated for Super Bowl XXVI. Aplomado - UTC 21:57, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- Well, that's your opinon. However, if the the Detroit Lions and the NFL, both of whom state that he was won 4 Super Bowls with 3 different teams, then it is an accurate fact. Bushfan 00:59, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- Fine, but I think a qualifier is in order, so I added one. Aplomado - UTC 02:16, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Merging "Fire Millen" into here
I don't see any sense in having separate articles for Matt Millen and complaints about the job he's done, so I merged that article with this one by posting a section on "Fire Millen." I removed some speculations and uncited criticisms to keep it NPOV. There's still more work to do but this is just to get the ball rolling. Let me know what you all think. Aplomado 02:04, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- I don't like the idea; I think "Fire Millen" is notable on its own; judging on how it permeated late 2005 popular culture. --Andy Saunders 02:53, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- So? Why does it need to be separate? Why can't people curious about Matt Millen read about the phenomenon here? I think it's ridiculous to suggest that it needs separate article.
- At any rate both pages are a mess and need to be cleaned up. Aplomado 03:07, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Merge it, not enough general cultural significance to support a separate "Fire Millen" page. It only matters to punishment gluttons like myself who have followed the Lions our whole lives.--Isotope23 03:38, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Isotope23. I've added the merge tags to both pages (actually *before* I read this info here in the discussion). If there is no meaningful opposition (and by meaningful I mean someone measurably adding to the Fire Millen article), I will merge the two within 2 weeks.
- Tmassey 16:11, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- I concurr with the consensus. Fire Millen should be merged with this article and redirected here. Jacob1207 02:46, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Good enough. Merge is complete. Tmassey 19:49, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Position?
Did I miss something or does this article not mention what position he played. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.72.38.36 (talk • contribs)
- You're right, I don't see it either. He was a linebacker. I added that to the article's intro. Aplomado talk 21:54, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Pro Bowl (AFC or NFC?)
I tentatively added the AFC Pro Bowl player category, because I am 99 percent sure he was an LA Raider when he went. PAWiki 01:50, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
About Harrington
Joey Harrington was traded to the Miami Dolphins, not released — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.210.246.45 (talk) 08:16, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Lions Record
I don't mind updating statistics, but there needs to be a cite for such statistics. If you want to update the stats for Millen's record, please find an article that includes the record. See WP:OR for more information. -- Tmassey 02:44, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Non-football?
In the "Fire Millen" section it says the slogan has been heard at "non-football events including the NBA, NHL, NFL." How is the NFL non-football? SuperToad64 19:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Good point. I'll look at it. -- Tmassey 17:49, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- If no one's got a problem with this, I'm gonna delete this section from the talk page. -- Tmassey 20:52, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Millen is trash
There really needs to be more anti-Millen content in this article. As it stands, it doesn't convey the breadth and depth of his incompetence, or the amount of disgust towards him in Detroit. 68.255.242.170 11:25, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that many people who read this article would disagree. However, this is an encyclopedia. That's what Sports Talk Radio is for... -- Tmassey 17:49, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
What about the comment he made in 1994 in an Green Bay packer/New Orleans Saints game, when he stated that Packers guard Tootie Robbins had "the most expansive rectum in the NFL", referring to his girth.
I would like to submit my site url, [1], for addition in the anti-millen links category. My site offers an online petition to have millen fired which is quarterly submitted to all manor of sporting news companies and the Detroit Lions franchise. Thank You.--Hankphone 22:34, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Car Dealership
How come there is no mention of his car dealership? http://www.teamlehighton.com/welcome.html Fisha695 02:25, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Would you buy a used car from this man ? :D —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.107.88 (talk) 22:32, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Much of this article is not neutral
I know Millen has been so incompetent that it is difficult for many people to remain neutral when talking about him, but if you can't be neutral you shouldn't be writing here. Let's try to stick to the facts, and if you have something negative to add please cite your source. 72.177.43.226 (talk) 01:13, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Bill Ford Jr
Shouldn't something be included in this article about how William Clay Ford, Jr called for Millen's firing? Karrmann (talk) 22:57, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Millen Fired?
Millen might've been fired by Ford, Sr. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8601458/Millen-out-as-Lions-president,-GM 98.243.26.174 98.243.26.174 (talk) 14:29, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Jerry Sandusky
Probably time to mention that Millen was on the board of Second Mile, and thus was one of the people who were award of the allegations against Sandusky and yet allowed him to continue to work with kids. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.102.0.109 (talk) 21:51, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Error
Wrong spot for this but anyway Millen was NOT a linebacker at Penn State he was a defensive tackle along with Bruce Clarke. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.45.74.14 (talk • contribs) 03:44, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- I have fixed this and added a reference. Eagles 24/7 (C) 03:53, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
