Check Henry Sindey's dates. It's said in Sidney, Henry, first earl of Romney (1641–1704), politician and army officer by David Hosford © Oxford University Press 2004–7 that "Charles appointed Sidney master of the robes in July 1675, a post he purchased and which returned a minimum of £500 annually if managed properly". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.25.53.49 (talk) 14:36, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which Sidney Godolphin?

[edit]

Is it really the colonel? Isn't it more likely it was Sidney Godolphin, 1st Earl of Godolphin? Colonel Godolphin was an MP with no clear connection that I can see to court. The Earl was a long-time courtier. Surely the earl is the one who was Master of the Robes? john k (talk)

Okay, DNB gives it to the earl. I'm changing it. john k (talk) 13:27, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
