Emcee

Having MCed, MC'ed, emcee'd, or emceed an arts festival, several plays as well as numerous improv and drama events, I feel it's safe to say that emcee is not a "misrendering" of MC. =P — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.92.224.39 (talk) 08:40, 9 May 2005‎ (UTC)

I think it should be said that "emcee" isn't a real word. It is a corruption of the abbreviation. Why does American English try to make words from abbreviations of individual letters (e.g. "JC" for junior college => "jaycee," another non-existent word). 2001:470:D:468:7455:7A:1C17:3DB4 (talk) 05:05, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

AmE is not the only English language (or any language) to invent words and spellings, so don't let ignorance or arrogance bias your thinking. You can find numerous invented spellings in BE and other languages. It's part of language development and evolution. In any case, this isn't a forum; we use this page to discuss improvements to the article, not discuss off-topic matters. - M0rphzone (talk) 04:36, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Keep to the subject matter!

The last sentence about kids being too poor to buy instruments - while it may well be true, it is a) unqualified, and b) off the point. This article is specifically about MCs, not the origins of Hip-Hop DJing/Turntablism. Removing this sentence. Beerathon 14:36, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Clean-up

Please clean this up. It's full of subliminal bias and should be merged with the MC page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.86.70.243 (talk) 21:15, 25 June 2006‎ (UTC)

this page needs a shit-ton. ReverendG 21:11, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Something besides hip-hop

Shouldn't there be a discussion here of other types of emceeing beides in hip-hop, which at least eighty percent of the page seems to be devoted to?Lbark 02:34, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Wedding section?

I think it would be worth mentioning the role of an MC during a wedding reception, which seems like a fairly common application of the MC role. --Anon —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.107.0.73 (talk) 02:33, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

That's more suited to a finishing school than an encyclopaedia Owen214 (talk) 10:30, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

what do say at a wedding events as a MC —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.239.226.254 (talk) 16:00, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Notable Mc's

I took the examples out, there a blemish on the page and completely unneeded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.182.69.201 (talk) 22:50, 8 March 2009‎ (UTC)

Singular or plural

Question: Is it master of ceremony or master of ceremonies if it is only one event? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.129.162.191 (talk) 20:25, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

It's always "master of ceremonies" Owen214 (talk) 10:30, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Rappers trying to redefine the term

I have a strong inclination to think that the rappers redefining the term MC are only doing so because they simply don't know what the term means themselves. Throughout history, spellings have been changed and even the meanings of words have changed due simply to ignorance. Please bear this in mind when rappers will undoubtedly try to update this article Owen214 (talk) 10:30, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Because this is sourced and, as far as I can tell, there is none for the 1973, it seems like it should be changed. Did anyone else have a source for the 1973 that should be looked at? Coralshin (talk) 19:05, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Boy Scouts of America

With this edit the following text was added. I just removed it because it adds nothing to the article. --evrik (talk) 04:09, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

In the Boy Scouts of America, the Master of Ceremonies is an adult or a Scout who leads a Court of Honor, specifically an Eagle Scout Court of Honor[1] (one which is held to present a scout with an Eagle Scout rank). It is optional to award merit badges or rank advancements at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor, rather than making the rest of the troop wait for another, non-Eagle, Court of Honor.

Should this article focus more on rapper MCs?

Master of ceremonies is now more commonly used to refer to rappers in electronic music. I think that the article should be updated to include this as a main part of it. – Craig Davison (talk) 15:54, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

A discussion is taking place to address the redirect MC. The discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 July 25#MC until a consensus is reached, and readers of this page are welcome to contribute to the discussion. the ultraUsurper 10:11, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
