Since the Massachusetts Highway Department has been folded into MassDOT, the respective articles should follow suit :-) Mapsax (talk) 23:57, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose See comment below. Support Merge The following is the current substantive content of the MassHighway article:

The Massachusetts Highway Department (MassHighway) is the highway department in the United States Commonwealth of Massachusetts, responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of all state highways and bridges and signage of numbered routes. It is a part of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation (EOT). ¶Other state agencies that manage roads include the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and Department of Conservation and Recreation. ¶The department is split into five district offices managed by a District Highway Director (DHD) under the supervision of the Chief Engineer at MassHighway headquarters in Boston.

The only footnote not related to the officers and other infobox facts is a link to the list of five district offices, which is now redirecting to the MassDOT website. MassDOT is the former MassHighway, lock, stock and barrel. If there were any content about MassHighway other than the boilerplate stub that exists now, there may be a reason to hold on to that article. But, there isn't. There is next to zero rewriting that needs to be done here. The RMV did not have an article. The MBTA is still independent except for its board. This article is now what used to be MassHighway, and there is no need to maintain an article of such length at the other title. It is a historical name for MassDOT, not a historical agency in the sense of the other components of the merger. My comments here are longer than the substance of that article. This merge should be done as soon as possible, rather than waiting seven days for a discussion merging should have been done on November 1. I suggest waiving any further discussion and doing this immediately. Sswonk (talk) 05:12, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Corporate status

[edit]

I don't see anything in here talking about the status of this agency as an executive department or a semi-public corporation/"authority." As initially conceived, it seemed to be the latter, but has been talked about in public primarily as the former. Massachusetts (talk) 19:23, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to write something about that tomorrow. It is an executive department, however, see http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/seslaw09/sl090025.htm , Section 2. Some further reading is in order. Sswonk (talk) 05:19, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Carrol Parkway"

[edit]

Is this the Lynnway, or a part of it, or what? --NE2 07:50, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[1] It's about 2000 feet of the Lynnway between 1A and the Nahant Rotary, I will remove the redlink and correct the paragraph. The text of the Act is apparently wrong i.e. a typo of omission of the "in Lynn, Massachusetts". It was renamed from "Highway" to "Parkway" in 1988[2]. MassDOT Highway Districts

[edit]

I believe a user-generated image of the six MassDOT highway division districts should be added to the article. The article lacks pictorial information. I'm not an expert at coloring in towns.

A list of districts with towns (including the newest 6th district) can be found on:
