Do we have a source for this statement: "To avoid unsettling potential purchasers by openly declaring her gender, Moran chose to exhibit her prints as 'MNMoran'."?
According to Etched in Memory: The Building and Survival of Artistic Reputation by Gladys Engel Lang and Kurt Lang, this has roots in the apocryphal story of her being invited to join the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers because she signed her prints "MNMoran," but her letter of invitation to the RSPE is addressed to "Mrs. Moran."
