Since 1966?

Yes, the Gillick head (silhouette would be a better term) began to appear in 1966. But a few years later, a similar, but different silhoutte began appearing, and I believe it is the one used to this day. My understanding is that this second head is based on a design by Arnold Machin, although not the one used on the definitives.

I think the wording "since 1966" should be replaced by "between 1966 and 1968" or whenever the last usage occured. Monomoit (talk) 01:01, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The "Gillick" head referred to was adapted for use on commemoratives by David Gentleman. The British Postal Museum and Archive states it this way:

This Gillick/Gentleman cameo featured on all commemorative and special stamps from 1966 until 1968, and was still used occasionally until 1973.
