She was born in 1914?
[edit]On Youtube there is a clip (from January 2014) with actress Mary Carlisle and it states she was born in 1914. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Miloradovan (talk • contribs) 12:13, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Even her "Official Facebook Page" says she was born in 1912. Forget Facebookpages. --Jack User (talk) 19:22, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
- This thread sheds some light on the matter. Crisso (talk) 00:04, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
IMDb states she was born in 1914. Mzimmerle (talk) 02:19, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
- IMDB is not a reliable source. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 02:24, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
According to whom? Yourself? Mzimmerle (talk) 01:06, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
Most of the time IMDB pages are edited by the actor’s agent. Mzimmerle (talk) 01:08, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- IMDb is a work-in-progress site which anyone can edit; it's no more reliable as a source in itself than WP. Although I do think 1914 is the right year based on other sources. Crisso (talk) 08:05, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Funny, because that is the exact discription of Wikipedia. Anyone can add and edit on Wikipedia too. Like you said it’s not any more reliable than Wikipedia itself. Mzimmerle (talk) 13:42, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
- Actually, it's not the same, since Wikipedia requires reliable-source citations, and particularly stringent for biographical material and for such exceptional claims as awards, firsts, etc. No one knows where the claims in IMDb come from, except for posted WGA credits and a couple of things like that. That said, even on Wikipedia we can't cite Wikipedia ... we have to cite the original footnotes sources.--Tenebrae (talk) 17:36, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Birth record from The California Birth Index indicates she was born on February 3, 1914, in Los Angeles County, California, not Boston or Stockton as cited in other sources: https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc=EcJ18539&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true&indiv=1&dbid=5247&gsfn=gwen*&gsln=witt*&gsfn_x=1&gsln_x=1&msypn__ftp=california,%20usa&msypn=7&msypn__ftp_x=1&msypn_x=1&qh=eWRXHnmd55TMGLJr8w6h3g%3D%3D&new=1&rank=1&redir=false&gss=angs-d&pcat=34&fh=4&h=491200&recoff=7%209&ml_rpos=5
Carlisle's first role
[edit]Hey, I'd like to bring up an issue regarding her screen debute. I managed to find reliable sources (newspapers from the 1930s) that say that her first role was "If I were King" with Jackie Coogan. Here's what Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes in 1933: "...but before that when still just a child, she played a bit in a picture starring Jackie Coogan...If I Were King"
If you look at Coogan's filmography, you see that title is absent. Instead, some people belive that "Long Live the King" (1923) is the actual film the sources are referring to. I too believe so, but can we know for sure? Mary isn't listed for that movie on IMDb or anything. OscarLake (talk) 16:19, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
On second thought, never mind, lol. I found a link that proves that she definitly appeared in Long Live the King in 1923.OscarLake (talk) 16:23, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Edit-warring editor
[edit]An anon IP is edit-warring in order to add uncited, possibly untrue claims about a living person in violation of WP:BLP. His edit additionally are WP:POV in that equally reliable sources give different birthdates for this still-living silent-film actress, a not unusual occurrence with actors, etc., and without explanation or discussion he inserts one over the other. I have placed a warning on his talk page. --Tenebrae (talk) 02:30, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
Two Interviews with Mary about her age
[edit]There are two Interviews with Mary on Youtube that i will link below. She says her real age in both of them. In this first one (from may 2013) she says that she will be 100 soon (which would mean 1914, not 1912):
and in this newer one from June 2014 she said that she just had her 100th birthday "three months ago":
I hope this helps to clarify that she was indeed born in 1914, not in 1912. And sorry for my bad english ;) best regards --Lindemann97 (talk) 10:17, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- These will have to be looked at and her comments noted with timestamp. But note that celebrities often fudge their ages and the truth only comes out with official documentation after they die. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:57, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Recent Investigations
[edit]Why'd you delete my addition of her real name, her parents, and her son? I gave you multiple sources for her real name, her parents' names, her husband's name, and her son's name. What else do I need to do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:987:4100:77ED:C505:540A:55E4:CFD5 (talk) 04:46, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- You need to find a reliable secondary source for this information; a newspaper or book will do. a blog or forum will not. Primary sources, such as those you found, are not sufficient/appropriate for Wikipedia purposes, especially when it comes to the biography of a living person.
